Phillies asked for Ichiro

The Mariners would not, or could not, although sources said when they checked on the availability of Houston pitcher Roy Oswalt as Monday's trading deadline neared, the Astros said they'd like Seattle's all-star right fielder in return.

Sources also said the Philadelphia Phillies asked for Ichiro in any deal with the Mariners involving outfielder Bobby Abreu, who was later traded to the New Yank Yankees for several marginal players.

Didn't matter, even if they said yes, Bobby wasn't going to Seattle, and the Phillies would have had to give them a lot for Ichiro. Bobby alone doesn't get it done.

It's not that... there was no way we'd get Ichiro but how do you ask Seattle for someone of that caliber but turnaround and ask the Yankees for 4 minor leaguers who aren't tearing it up?
