I was watching some post game highlights and noticed the Phillies spraying eachother with Champagne - are you frucking serious?!?!

And later do I find out - EVERY TEAM DOES THIS!!

I guess i'm anti- celebration - you win the division - Great! Champagne shower - you win the world series - Great! Champagne shower - but NOT IN BETWEEN

(same thing with college basketball cutting down the nets, you win your conference, you win the Natl title- you get to climb the ladder - thats it)

It's the whole change that has taken place.... make a 4 yard catch and your on one knee chopping your arm to signal a 1st down, making a tackle and doing a 2 minute celebration.

It's a societal thing I think.

i've always thought that was kind of lame too.

if i were a manager i'd say no champagne unless we win the whole thing.

that is one of sports worst traditions... celebrating meaningless championships.

As a corollary to that, I absolutely hate stuff like NL East Champs gear. Who the fuck cares? I'm waiting for my World Series CHAMPS gear. Whenever I see someone wearing an NFC Champs Eagles shirt, I think "hey asshole, thanks for reminding me we lost the Super Bowl."

I was thinking the same thing and then realized (What MDFAN said) - our American culture sucks right now. Celebrate mediocrity.

Don't forget zero personal accountability, like blaming the politicians because you were too dumb to read/understand a contract.

But it was only $5.

You buy a hat like that, you should get a bowl of soup with it.

Oh but it looks good on you though!

I was going to buy a Phillies NL East Conference Champions T-shirt so I can wear it in NY and piss off all those Mets fans. Then I realized they'd all just pretend to be Yankees fans and convince themselves that it didn't matter.

I don't have a problem with celebrating a little after clinching a playoff spot and a lot after winning the pennant and/or World Series. But I do agree everything is blown out of proportion celebration-wise nowadays.

Maybe MLB has a deal with Bollinger.

I have no problem with celebrating winning the pennant. That has ALWAYS been a big deal. Remember: "The GIANTS win the PENNANT!!!!, THE GIANTS win the PENNANT!"

Getting "to" the World Series and having "your" team in the World Series is a big deal. Enjoy it.

If you guys didn't enjoy 2004 because we lost in the end then you are missing the point. That was a great season. I loved having the Eagles in the Super Bowl and even though we didn't pull it out, it was a great, great ride.

Our time is coming and this city is going to win them in bunches (like Boston).

Enjoy the World Series, win or lose. It will be great!!!

GO PHILLIES!

I don't have a problem with celebrating with champagne for a division title or a National League title, not at all. To win the pennant is a really big deal!!

Now, to do champagne for winning the first round, that doesn't add up for me. Give 'em lots of beer and let them spray each other with that, but I don't think they need to do champagne. Can you imagine if hockey had champagne for every round?

Now have them Rays get things over with in the AL! Bring on the WORLD SERIES!!!

I'm on board with last nights celebration. Getting there is a big deal!
