But I keep having these dreams of adding Manny Ramirez to the outfield next year. Imagine his right-handed bat next to Howard and Utley. It gives me chills.
I'd offer him 4 years, $80 million. I'd say no to 5. But this guy is the most fearsome bat in baseball today. Boras is going to have a field day with him.

He made a ton of money in the last two weeks.

no way you offer him more than 3 years. He'll be 37 near the beginning of next season. By year 4 he'll be playing at 40. Do you really think he'll be worth the $20MM/season at that stage?
I'd spend the $ on a pitcher before blowing $20MM/season on a position player.

Somebody will offer him 5 years, I'm pretty convinced of that. Three years won't get you a seat at the Ramirez negotiation table, IMO.
I think this guy will keep hitting for three or four years. He's getting better as a hitter, IMO.

You are better off reinvesting in your squad, scouting and draft picks. Burrell is on there because we reinvested in him. The big free agent signings are a real crap shoot.

I agree, but they will need to add a formidable right-handed bat this offseason if they want to keep taking shots at the WS. No right-handed bat is more formidable than Manny Ramirez.
They're already paying Burrell 14m this year. No great stretch to add another 6m to that tally to get a far, far superior hitter.
I think the pitching will be OK with Hamels, Myers, Blanton and hopefully Carrasco and Happ next year if no Moyer. Certainly good enough with a frightening lineup that has Rollins, Howard, Utley, Ramirez.
I'd rather they plug Happ in for Moyer than give Moyer 6m or so for another year. Happ is good. They could use that 6m, add it to Burrell's tab and come up with the 20m they'd need for Manny.
I'd be shocked if the Phillies went after ANY name free agent this offseason.

Me too. From a FO standpoint, next year is gonna be sold out almost every game from the jump.

Even if the FO wanted to spend, the Phillies' invisible ownership will veto any large outlays of cash. As you so accurately
point out, they will continue to get the only thing that increases their heart rate...a steady diet of sell outs.

Definitely a feared hitter but, and it is just me, I don't think I go after Manny Ramirez. Not a big fan
