So yes - it's unfair to label him a bust and not give him a shot - but the Eagles FO should be chastised for using a 1st round pick on a guy this old - who is no more ready than a 22 year old would be.

I have a bigger problem with using a first round pick on a guard than the age. But yeah, given the age and the fact that you've used a No. 1 on a guard, a position you never draft in the first round, Watkins has to maul right away.

Interestingly, Big Red did not commit to Watkins as the starter this week at his press session today. Plus, DeVan took all of the first-team reps at RG today in practice.

        * I'd like to just once draft a Logan Mankins and be done with it. We keep shuffling these guys around and we never get a bonafide o-linemen who can crush dudes outside of FA.

C'Mon Watkins - do some steroids or something...let's go.

DeVan is now your Sunday starter, per Reuben Frank's Twitter.

that is simply insane. really. Who does that? One week before the first game you pick up a mediocre Olineman and plan to start him. What?

VFK, if you read this, I can't help reflect on our little discussion about whether the Oline sucked or not. This is ANOTHER last minute desperation shuffle. Obviously Andy/Mudd decided we were pretty F-ed.

On a positive note, this may be just the type of catastrophe that we needed for Andy to decide to call a few more run plays. Noisy dome with an Oline that has NO constructive time together.....yep, let's run.

Question that can't ever be answered...If Juan Castillo was still the OL coach, would Danny Watkins have been OK? How different would the OL look in general? Would Jamaal Jackson be the starting center?

I can only hope this is a stopgap to give Watkins some more time to get comfortable.

They just need time. Kelce is going to be a fantastic center. Watkins just needs more reps. The line will be fine in time.

Greg Cosell sure likes Kelce: http://www.philadelphiaeagles.com/mu...9-99bc814224ed

                    * C'mon man. If the kids has talent like Howie believes (cough) - he'll be fine. Or of course he could be as talented as Doug Bryznski.

If you want to feel better about a rookie center, watch that video.

While it was only 1 play, that Ronnie Brown touchdown run was a OL-man thing of beauty as far as Kelce was concerned on that play.
