Lions to host receiver, returner Brad Smith on visit

The Lions are set to host special-teams standout Brad Smith on a free-agent visit Tuesday, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports.

Smith, 31, played in 13 games for the Philadelphia Eagles last year, catching one pass for 13 yards and playing nearly half of the Eagles' special-teams snaps as a coverage specialist.

A dual-threat quarterback in college at Missouri, Smith has played mostly running back and receiver in the NFL. He was a standout kick returner in the prime of his career, returning four kicks for touchdowns, and has been a core special teams player on every team he's played for.

Before spending the last two seasons in Philadelphia, Smith played two years for the Buffalo Bills and five seasons for the New York Jets.

He was supposed to be a stud, but other than the kick he didn't field, I remember very little about his time here. Not much stands out.
We're looking for people that are fundamentally different,” vice president of player personnel Andy Weidl said Saturday night. “The love and passion for football, it's non-negotiable. They're caring, their character, they do the right thing persistently, and they have a relentless playing style that you can see on tape. The motor, it burns hot. You see them finishing plays. They have a team-first mentality. They're selfless individuals.

Isn't that enough??? Chip had him run some stupid wildcat play on the goal line the first year he showed up that ended up a disaster too. OUT!!!

I known that I've seen dumb plays before, but that's about as stupid as looking down the barrel of a rifle and wondering how your head got blown off. I can remember one even dumber though.

Remember that total moron Ryan Moats? Hell, he might have been the best runner in Eagle history but was too friekin stupid to play. His classic was on a punt return and he was jamming the spiker. After his jam he takes off running all out with his head down barreling towards his return man "presumably to block for him). Well ol shot for brains never took his eyes off of the ground and blows up his retune man, absolutely destroys him. Of course it's a fumble and we lose the game. To this day I can't believe Andy didn't cut him on the spot, never mind keep him on the team. He should have been executed. Retroactive birth control. Get him out of the gene pool.
