  • Why it might be smart to sign Wentz now

I grabbed this little piece from an article about the Wilson negotiations and why they might be complicated. Maybe the Eagles should lock up all of their young players now. I know that the Eagles are worried about signing Wentz with all of his health concerns but maybe they should roll the dice now?

The changing landscape. Legalized sports gambling’s in the process of being mainstreamed. Bidding from streaming services will probably drive the money in the next broadcast deals into the stratosphere (or beyond whatever stratosphere they’re in now). A new CBA could mean anything, and there’s only two seasons left in the current deal.

Who knows what contracts will be like after the new deal is struck with the Player's Union?

I think the Eagles would love to resign Wentz now. . Really think that Howie made all of these moves to free up the cap space to get something done this off season. It certainly fits Howies MO of signing player they think are long term as soon as they are eligible to sign. However it takes two to sign and I am sure Wentz Agents are telling him to hold off for some of the reasons you state, he gets healthy and actually wins the MVP award (which is possible), he get even mo money.

There is little doubt they are, and should be IMO, moving on that now. I am sure Wentz' agent knows that same landscape so he isn't going to cave for just anything. But I believe they will get it done. I know some feel they shouldn't give him big money now because he hasn't done it for a full season now since his rookie year and he wasn't the one to win the Lombardi but I think that is silly. He has shown he is MVP caliper. Whether he gets there or not I don't know but the talent and work ethic are there
Wait until next year is a terrible philosophy
      Hope is not a strategy

I really was just pointing out the returned viewership for the NFL that is sure to follow with legalized gambling legislation popping up in most of the country. As soon as the states figure out the internet aspects of the business the public is going to jump on it like flies on shit. As long as everybody doesn't get too greedy it should work out great for the NFL. If they want a piece of the action that could kill sports gambling before it even gets off the ground. They had better just settle for the increased interest that this will bring and not try to get their greedy little hands on the money that gambling brings because between the states and the casinos there won't be enough money for them.
