Robert Saleh forgets he's the Jets' head coach after team's first rookie minicamp practice

Jets' rookie minicamp began Friday afternoon. While the team's rookie draft picks and free agents are just beginning to acclimate to the NFL, they're not the only ones who have to get used to a new role.

Robert Saleh is in his first year as an NFL head coach. And simply put, the former 49ers defensive coordinator doesn't always remember that he's the head honcho quite yet, Jacob Camenker of The Sporting News reports.

After Friday's practice, Saleh explained to reporters that he had almost forgotten that it was his job to deliver the post-practice speech.

"The horn blew for practice to be over," Saleh detailed. "I started to take my normal spot behind the huddle to listen to the head coach speak, and I was like, 'Oh shoot! That's me!' "

That's pretty funny stuff from Saleh. It's also understandable considering that Saleh had spent the previous four seasons as a defensive coordinator and has been working as a defensive assistant since 2005.

Until Saleh is used to having a typical practice-day routine, he may make the occasional mistake. For now, he's getting into the swing of a new routine, one that features him as the Jets' head coach.
