If they nail this years draft, they will be releasing a bunch of old guys and be young for the next 3-4 years. They can be good and pay Hurts. These guys aren’t suddenly having good drafts for no reason. Howie and all of them have known all along that Hurts is a high quality human being with amazing talent. They are going to grow a full roster together and be a dominant team for the next 5 seasons
We're looking for people that are fundamentally different,” vice president of player personnel Andy Weidl said Saturday night. “The love and passion for football, it's non-negotiable. They're caring, their character, they do the right thing persistently, and they have a relentless playing style that you can see on tape. The motor, it burns hot. You see them finishing plays. They have a team-first mentality. They're selfless individuals.

If he keeps taking hits like he did yesterday his career could deteriorate as soon as Wentz's did and then we really would be in trouble.
Howie does have a way of making contracts that sound good, and are pretty good for the player, but aren't extreme killers (like the AJ Brown deal). And I'm sure will push some cap hits into void years and that sort of thing.

Hurts has a new-ish agent who has never negotiated a non-rookie contract, I think. That could go either way -- the agent may want to wait to be the last QB of the current round to sign, so to not look "soft", i.e. letting the market be pushed higher first by others, so their deal doesn't look bad compared to the other QBs that sign. Or maybe they may be amenable to being the first, but you can't make an obviously bad contract to make that agent look bad either. Wentz was pretty good about all that, but no guarantees Hurts (or the advice he gets) will be the same.

These guys have to get theirs. That is only fair. At the same time they have to realize it is a business and they can’t put the business out of business for their own ego
Wait until next year is a terrible philosophy
        Hope is not a strategy

Maybe no other QB is up for a new contract?

Lamar Jackson is overdue (partly to him being his own agent, and not wanting to compromise a bit, and apparently willing to play out the contract and franchise tags). Mainly though the 2020 draft class is eligible. Aside from Hurts that includes Herbert, Burrow, and Tua. (And Jordan Love, hah.). For other free agents, there will be Geno Smith, and Garoppolo, and Daniel Jones. And Mike White of the Jets, who could get rather interesting if he keeps up that play.

Ah crap, they're all going to want a fortune! All it takes is one of them to sign big and all hell will break loose. Jackson turned down a fortune last year and IMO isn't that great. He's really an impossible jerk about it and really speaks to his personality and integrity. We're porked.
