  • Huh?

    STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

The Eagles led the NFL with 60 tackles for a loss in 2005 and 25 of those were made by the linebacking corps.

    Really? This surprises me!

Bet they also led the league in most-points-trailed after the 1st period...........yep, that's pretty strange!

That's stunning for a team with so few sacks. I suppose the short yardage up-the-middle game is strong with Trotter, but that's not going to account for all that many tackles. Who knows?

I believe Trotter had a career best year in tackles last season. He was one of our few bright spots.

The Eagles actually played the run fairly well last year. I bet at least 5 of those tackles were from the SD game.

interesting. Not surprising, because the D was decent...but allowed too many big plays and too many passing TD's.

but shocking how many of those plays came from the LBers

I wonder how few of those were Adams?

We might be surprised at how much better the defense looks this year with a competent offense. Assuming a competent offense, of course.

maybe it was cuz teams were running up the gut with big leads on us after the standard 3 mike mcmahon picks to put us down by double digits halfway thru the 2nd on a consistent basis
Five straight losses, including a crucial one at Dallas on Christmas Day, send them out against Atlanta, needing the win, plus help. -Dr. Z, 8/31/06

Maybe so, but that still doesn't diminish the fact that they actually led the league in tackles for loss.

Considering how poor and porous that D was-- that stat is still a shock IMO.

Kinda funny because I do remember a bunch of plays that went nowhere, but I wasn't sure they were behind the LOS.

Still... for us to lead the league is amazing... Hey! That means we lead the league in tackles behind the LOS, and the smallest percentage of running plays!!

                    We're getting better!

I agree that the SD game probably accounted for several. The best running back only had about 3 yards late in the 4th qtr. That had to account for several losses behind the line.

This is also easy to explain. The one gap tackles that we have try to use their speed off of the snap. They either get in the right gap (tackle for a loss) or the wrong gap (a bigg gain or Trotter makes the hit). We seemed to always be a hit or miss D. Trotter is the same way. He either hits the right hole, or the wrong one. We got crushed when he hit the wrong hole because Adams was normally blown 10 yards out of the play.....like the Atlanta game.

Trotter still gambles. I swear, I think sometimes he just says "I'm going to blow something up!" And it doesn't matter if its a RB, FB, TE or an OL, he's just going to blast someone. Often, it disrupts the play, and we end up getting tackles for loss. But if he guesses wrong, and thre's no one filling , we all know what happens.

Gotta take the good with the bad with Trotter. But he's welcome on my team any day.

I don't know if that's a great stat. I'd rather see the plays made by the d-line and the DE's instead of linebackers.

I agree. These losses seem to be from run blitzes....not great D-line penetration. Hopefully that will change with Walker and Trucker healthy and Bunkley and Patterson improving quickly.
