Apparently, Tapeh is healthy. He came through the spring with a clean bill of health. The hip is good to go. The rust is knocked off.

Tapeh is now focused on wresting away the starting fullback job away from Josh Parry, which is going to be a terrific battle in camp.

The third-year player is athletic and powerful and he does good things with the ball in his hands. But is Tapeh ready to be a starting fullback in the NFL? Can he block well enough to lead a running game?

Tapeh is one of a group of players coming back from injuries, and he'll be watched closely starting Thursday when he reports to Lehigh.

The thing with this is that he's never done anything in the NFL. So even if he's 100% - is he any good? Multiple layers of questions here.

I hope he beats out Parry because Parry stinks. But who knows.

The two biggest questions with Tapeh are how he handles that first hit and if he is okay from that can he take the punishment a FB has to endure. If he can do both of those things he beats out Parry.
      I miss Philly!

I'd love to see this kid win the FB spot but there's a # of questions here.
If healthy there's no question in my mind that he can handle the pounding but there's more to this deal.Does he know the playbook? His blocking assignments? Where he's suppossed to be on every play?
That's alot to ask from a guy with very little experience in the WCO. The fact of the matter is,if Tapeh's not totally up to speed on his assignments,Reid will go with Parry at FB.Tapeh really has to play well in preseason to crack the starting line-up(possibly even make the club).I'm pulling for the kid, gotta wait & see.
Just give me ONE before I go!

Tapeh BETTER be up to the task. We really need our weakest position to be upgraded, and right now, he is the only option.

Hip injuries are tough to recover from. If he does make the team, I hope Parry is still out there to come to our rescue if Tapeh's hip has any complications.

The only saving grace is that the FB will not be on the field as much this year.........with the Pro-sets being utilized more. But it would sure be nice to have a good receiver there to give DM another weapon.

J, I hear your questions but I put them all back on Tapeh. If after sitting around for a year-- he better had been studying the playbook. Hell, he shoul dknow th ebook better than Parry--- and if he doesn't then he was just plain lazy for the last 18 months or so.

I'm really pulling for the kid and I hope he wasn't wasting his time for the last 18 months.

MD, reading from a playbook, and even watching game film, isn't as valuable as on-the-job training. Tapeh is behind the curve as compared to Parry in understaning his position, I promise you.

Freshie, of course he isn't at the same level, but it shouldn't be like he is starting from square one either. My point being that as long as he took advantage of the time he did have--- all he has to do is work hard physically at camp, IMO, to beat out Parry. If he squandered his time, then that's on him. He has had one camp, he has had SOME game time, he has been around the NFL for 3 years-- so it's not like he is a draftee trying to unseat a poor FB.

MD, I'm all for it. I am PRAYING that Tapeh is ready to take over that role. But I don't expect it to be easy, because I just KNOW that it's Andy's tendency to lean toward the kid who's been in there doing it (be it well or poorly, LOL!), and Parry has that advantage of game time experiance last season. The nice thing is, if Tapeh wins the job, it means he will have done so DECISIVELY.

It's an interesting story. He has some form of enlightening experience when he got hurt. Finds religion, works his rear end off, and now he's apparently healthy. I'm really pulling for Tapeh. Not just because the injury, and comeback story, but because we really need a good f'cking fullback.

It would be a great story for this kid to earn a starting position, and upgrade the FB position.

Plus, Parry has got to be one of the "lesser" starting FBs in the league. Let's be honest. It's not like he's got to beat out Tom freakin Rathman here. He's got a shot.

While he is grossly lacking in game experience and while questions linger about his durability after a devastating hip injury, Tapeh does enjoy one distinct advantage over Parry...he can walk 10 feet without tripping himself and falling on his face.

Ah hah, therin lies the rub! Compared to our current level of stumblebum fullbacking, at least Tapeh could/would run the 10 yards and IF he tripped, with his exceptional strength and good hands he would be able to get them out to cushion his fall .

Stumblebum fullbacking. Boy, that really nails it.
