Redskins The Frontrunner For Vince Young?

So this is the thinnest of thin rumors, but since it's the Redskins we can at least have a little chuckle about it. In a recent piece about options that could be out there to improve the Miami Dolphins' QB situation, beat writer Omar Kelly took a special focus on Vince Young. He lobbies for the Dolphins to sign Young, but says that it's the Redskins who appear to be the favorites to get him.
Two years ago I banged the drum for the Dolphins to sign Michael Vick and got stoned, so go ahead and throw them….But before you do look up Young’s career stats and win-loss record. I’m hearing the Redskins are the front-runner for his services, so it’ll be interesting to see if the Dolphins get in the game.
Kelly also does mention Kevin Kolb as an option for the Dolphins, but doesn't seem high on the idea.
I’ve been told Kevin Kolb would be the option that fits the best, but I’ve done the film work on Kolb and it’s a bit concerning. He checks down plenty, and doesn’t have a big enough body of work. So the max I’d give up for Kolb is a second-round pick. Plus, the Eagles have hoodwinked the Dolphins on a QB trade before.

The Cincinnati Enquirer calls free agent Rex Grossman a "real possibility" if the Bengals decide to bring in a veteran to compete with Andy Dalton.

"We really have no one that’s taken a real NFL snap," said QBs coach Ken Zampese. "It’s prudent to look into that area if that person is the right fit for us." Beat writer Joe Reedy lists Charlie Frye and Jim Sorgi as possibilities to mentor Dalton. We'd bet on Dalton beating out any of the above in a camp battle.

The Redskins are a front runner for anyone that gets cut. It's amazing that no one in the org can figure out why they suck. LOL, I love that team.

You almost wonder if they are intentionally stupid. I can't wait to hear Steve Czaban on this.

SI's Peter King believes free agent Rex Grossman will take the first snap of the 2011 season for the Redskins.

King appears to be making an educated guess, not reporting. It's interesting because speculation from local outlets has John Beck entering camp as the starter. Grossman did start three games for the Skins last year, winning in Jacksonville and narrowly losing to the Cowboys and Giants. The 2003 first-round pick averaged 280 yards per game in those starts while posting seven touchdowns against four interceptions.

Sounds like a winner. I hope he starts every game for them!

I hope that they don't get him. Say what you want, but the guy won a hell of a lot of games for Fisher. He may be a jerk, but he's a hell of a talent. Personally, I can't see him getting along with the Shanahans. If you can't get along with McNabb, how can you deal with this wingnut?

exactly. VY with the Redskins would be a hilarious distraction so we don't feel too bad about out offensive line.

Two sources tell the Washington Examiner's John Keim that they would be "shocked" if Vince Young lands with the Redskins.

Redskins coach Mike Shanahan has a strong friendship with Jeff Fisher and even moreso with former Titans coordinator Mike Heimerdinger. There's no way Young is getting a favorable review from either coach. The Young-to-Redskins whispers appear to be little more than media-generated scuttlebutt as opposed to sourced reports.

According to research by CSN Washington, no quarterback of John Beck's age and experience level has broken out as an effective NFL starter since at least 1980.

Beck turns 30 in August, and he has just four NFL starts under his belt. Jeff Garcia comes closest to Beck, but he had 10 NFL starts and four years with the Calgary Stampeders before breaking out at age 30. Eleven other QBs since 1980 have had their first 3,000-yard season after age 30, but they all had at least 16 starts before their breakout. That list includes luminaries such as Steve Young, Rich Gannon, Doug Flutie, and Phil Simms.

John Beck is expected to enter training camp as the Redskins' starting quarterback, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

"It will be his job to lose," said Schefter, who is tight with coach Mike Shanahan after the two collaborated on a book in the late '90s. Per Schefter, the Redskins bypassed QBs in the draft because they believe Beck is better than most of the group that was available in the middle of the first round. Beck doesn't have a touchdown to show for his four NFL starts. He completed 27-of-48 passes (56.2 percent) for 300 yards (6.2 YPA) with a 2:2 TD-to-INT ratio against backups in last year's preseason. Former Dolphins coach Cam Cameron has given up on Beck twice now, which leaves Shanahan as the 30-year-old's lone backer.

Free agent Rex Grossman appeared on ESPN 980 Radio Wednesday and said he is under the assumption that he will re-sign with the Redskins.

"I'm assuming that's what's going to happen," he said. Grossman added that OC Kyle Shanahan and QBs coach Matt LaFleur personally asked him to throw with the Redskins' receivers during the lockout. For now, we consider Grossman likely to be back in Washington to compete with John Beck. Most reporters covering the situation believe Beck will be ahead on the depth chart.

The Washington Post considers it "all but a foregone conclusion" that Donovan McNabb's time with the Redskins is up.

We do too, although there is still an odd sect of thinking that claims Mike Shanahan might still bring back McNabb. Not with a $10 million offseason roster bonus, he won't. Currently, John Beck is preparing to be the Redskins' starter. Said projected backup Rex Grossman on the radio Wednesday: "I think (Donovan) is ready to move on. And (the Redskins) are too."
