  • 2011 Eagles offseason-week moves

Given that this is going to be a lunatic week, sort of like the draft but exponentially crazier, I figured it would be better for one rolling thread for most of the news. I'm sure major announcements will have separate threads, but the rosters need to go from about 70 to 90 in a matter of days, plus sign all our picks, not to mention free agent signings and trades.

Gotta love it when the *time of day* is an important part of the offseason "key date" schedule. As far as I can tell, and I'm sure I got something wrong or something will change, the schedule is as follows:

Monday: Can negotiate with draft picks and UFDAs, free agent list sent out
Tuesday, 10am: Starting gun. Team facilities open, can sign draft picks and UDFAs, can make trades, can begin talking to all free agents (but not make actual offers, or sign).
    Wednesday: Eagles training camp opens
Thursday, 4pm: Teams can officially cut players
Friday, 6pm: Free agency signings can become official. Veteran free agents may not practice until league year starts.
August 4, 4pm: League year starts; NFLPA must be a union and final CBA must be ratified by then

    This will be... interesting.

Per philly.com, the Eagles on Monday night have signed (or will officially sign, tomorrow) at least four UDFAs:

Miami RB Graig Cooper (coming off torn ACL in 2009)
Southern Arkansas DL Cedric Thornton (good junior year, worse senior)
Indiana WR Terrance Turner (6'3"; had 67 catches)
Michigan TE Martell Webb (good size, but caught 9 passes in college career)

This thread should be stickied, so that we can add to it as moves are made.

Eagles have reportedly signed Iowa WR Derrell Johnson-Koulianos. He was arrested on drug charges and was suspended from Iowa's bowl game last year; pled guilty to marajuana possession in January and the rest of the charges were dropped.

The Eagles UDFA article above has been updated with another:

Brandon Peguese transferred from South Florida to Hampton following his freshman season and went on to register 179 tackles and 18 sacks in three seasons with the Pirates. He was a second-team All-MEAC performer in 2009 after leading the conference with 7.5 sacks. As a senior in 2010, he posted career highs with 85 tackles and eight sacks. A native of Greensboro, NC, Peguese attended Grimsley High School, where he was an all-state defensive end.

WOW! Eagles are letting all their free agents walk. No Sav, no Mikell, no Bradley, no Harrison

Whoah. philly.com reporting that the Eagles will not re-sign any of their own free agents -- including Bradley, Rocca, Mikell, Harrison, Nick Cole, MJG, and Dmitri Patterson. A couple of those (Rocca, Bradley) are real surprising to me. There may be a lot of room for UDFAs or other free agents to come.

And in the area-I-didn't-think-they'd-be-concentrating-on department, the Eagles have named Roger Marandino (from Brown University) as the assistant strength and conditioning coach, per a couple of folks on twitter.

Have not seen any confirmation of this (though the above article claimed the Eagles confirmed). Johnson-Koulianos tweeted "Philly = Rumor" but no real updates since.

Couple of tweets saying the Eagles have signed West Virginia WR Noel Devine.

And another article claiming Derrell Johnson-Koulianos has indeed signed. That would be, what, five UDFA WRs if all true? Do we really need that many?

Charles Johnson resigns with Panthers ...
for $32 mil guaranteed. That's a lot of money.

                              Two points:
                              - This will make Humine Urine much harder for the Gints to resign
                              - Johnson's agent is Rosenscum. Will getting an early taste of blood make him that much more obnoxious to deal with on Jackson's extension?
