very good news. I have no idea what the recovery of having the lymph nodes removed is...

but this is very promising and certainly a serious scare avoided for Jeremy and his family

Still sounds like pretty serious stuff, if they were worried enough to test for lymphoma and then remove his lymph nodes.

JM regarding the Eagles' handling of this sensitive situation, which he wanted kept private,

"I wanted to keep it private until I knew for sure what was going on, and the Eagles were amazing," Maclin said. "They were one of the only ones who knew. My relationship with them is more than professional. They were like family during this."

Wishing a speedy recovery and good health to JM a

And hats off to the Birds for their handling of the situation!

And a BIG sigh of relief from Bird fans everywhere!

I watched the coverage on NFL Network.. Great news for Jeremy. Sounds like he had a frightening couple of months, at least he said so. Not knowing can be unsettling, and perhaps as scary as the reality of having a life threatening disease. Jeremy was incredibly relieved to find out he doesn't have cancer.........strikes a little close to home, ya know? I think I cried a bit in happiness for him.

Now kid, go help win us a championship.

This is really an odd coincidence, but this same thing happened to me that happened to Maclin, believe it or not. Only my virus didn't get as far along as his did. It was about 7-8 years ago, I got EXTREMELY tired. So tired that I could barely function. I just chalked it up to a weird cold. But it lasted for over a week, at which point I developed a swollen node on my neck. Being niave to what that could mean, I casually called the doctor, and they wanted to see me ASAP based on what I described to them. When I got there, they told me that they couldn't know for sure, but one of the possibilities was lymphoma. X-Rays didn't show anything abnormal. They also tested for mono which came back negative. They sent me to an ENT, who ran some tests for a bunch of other things which all of which came back negative. My family doctor was extremely concerned. A day before they were going to schedule my date to have the node biopsied, I broke out with the worst sore throat that I've ever had...which was great news because that meant it was a virus, not lymphoma. That was about 3-4 weeks into the entire ordeal...throughout which I could barely stay awake.

Just after I got the sore throat, the lump on my neck vanished, and 3 days after that I started feeling good again.

NOTHING they tested for came up positive. And so I never did find out what the hell it was. But it was nasty.

Eagles Trainer Rick Burkholder Says Jeremy Maclin Could Play In 7-10 Days
All the "internet doctors" can stop playing "pin the tail on the disease." Jeremy Maclin is OK, per Jay Glazer of Fox Sports:
Maclin told FOXSports.com in an exclusive interview that a false test led doctors to believe he had contracted a form of cancer known as lymphoma.

But after further testing, Maclin was given a clean bill of health and is ready to return to the field.
According to Maclin, he did not yet have his final answer on his prognosis until this morning, and seemed to be annoyed (rightfully) at all the rumors being floated:
"That’s first and foremost, I want everyone to know I’m fine, I’m healthy," Maclin told FOXSports.com on Wednesday, only an hour after receiving word from his doctor that his final test came back negative. "I was tested for everything, and everyt single test came back negative. I don’t have mono, I don’t have AIDS, leukemia — all the things people were guessing on, there was nothing. I was being tested for lymphoma and thank God everything has come back negative.

"I wanted my privacy on this until I had answers. I don’t like to talk unless I have all the answers about what I’m talking about. It was frustrating to hear all the rumors about me. It wasn’t until this morning that I finally got my final answer and thankfully I’m healthy and ready to return to football."
Apparently, he has had a rough summer, undergoing test after test, many of which were uncomfortable and downright painful, not to mention the mental aspect of potentially going from star football player to cancer patient in the blink of an eye. Maclin credited the Eagles for giving him a strong support system throughout his ordeal.

The Eagles are expected to make an announcement tonight, although it will be an anti-climactic one. We'll get to the football aspect later. Let's for now just be happy that Maclin, widely regarded as a great person, has a clean bill of health.

Eagles Trainer Rick Burkholder Says Jeremy Maclin Could Play In 7-10 Days

Eagles head trainer Rick Burkholder held a conference call this evening to discuss Jeremy Maclin's situation and give some background on what he and the team has been going through this summer. However, the important takeaway here is that Maclin is experiencing no symptoms, his weight is back, he is in good shape and will likely return to practice within 7-10 days.

In mid Februrary/early March, Maclin was having weight loss, night sweats, fever and generally what you might see as flu like symptoms. Burkholder said that the Eagles did not know about the situation initially because of the lockout. In fact, Burkholder heard about Maclin having an illness through a media report and got Dr Dorsheimer, the Eagles physician who was on the scene for the Mike Patterson incident, to get in contact with Jeremy. Dr Dorsheimer and Maclin's father, who is a urologist, began treating him in Philadelphia and putting him through a battery of tests to rule out a number of different diseases.

They did discover that he had enlarged lymph nodes and had abnormal blood tests, but could not come to a conclusion on what the cause was. He then returned to St. Louis and basically went through the tests again and got essentially the same inconclusive results. When he did report to the Eagles, Burkholder said he was in great shape and his only request was that the Eagles not disclose what he was going through.

From the point he came into camp, the Eagles knew he had a laproscopic surgery scheduled back in St. Louis to finally rule out cancer or any other life threatening illnesses. That was why he left for St Louis prior to the first preseason game. He says Maclin does have some inflammation in his system, which they will treat, but he displays no symptoms. Burkholder admitted that they don't definitively know what exactly it was that he had, but they have ruled out all serious, potentially life threatening possibilities.

Maclin will rejoin the team this weekend and has been cleared to resume running and working out. If all goes well, he will likely be cleared to return to full practice in 7-10 days. Burkholder says that it depends on conditioning and what Andy Reid says, but he does "feel safe" in saying that Maclin will be ready by opening day.

When they initially obsevmy my enlarged lymph nodes, speculation , and HOPE, was that it was sarcoidosis. Surprised that is never mentioned here. Second hope was lymphoma, as my doc told me that 90% of lymphoma is treatable/cureable. It's not the death sentence it once seemed to be, but for a 20-some year old kid, it's certainly not something he wants to be having to deal with.
