  • Eagles sign Felix Jones, former Cowboys running back

The Eagles and former Cowboys running back Felix Jones agreed to terms on a one-year contract, an NFL source confirmed.
    ESPN first reported the deal.
Jones, 26, worked out for the Eagles last week. He visited the Patriots later in the week. The Bengals were the only other team to publicly express interest in the free agent this off-season.
Jones, a first-round draft pick in 2009, spent four seasons in Dallas. He was used in various ways. He ran for 2,728 yards on 569 carries (4.8 yards a carry) and caught 127 passes for 1,062 yards in five seasons. He also scored 11 rushing touchdowns, caught three more through the air and averaged 24.0 yards on kick returns.

    More coverage

Jones returned a kick 98 yards for a score against the Eagles when he was a rookie.
He will compete with several running backs to backup starter LeSean McCoy. Coach Chip Kelly has praised second-year tailback Bryce Brown and Chris Polk this offseason. Brown shined filling in for McCoy late last season but had ball security issues. Polk battled a foot injury as a rookie and did not log a carry or catch.
Kelly's offensive system will likely utilize multiple running backs.
Rookies Miquel Maysonet (Stoney Brook) and Matthew Tucker are the other running backs on the 90-man roster.

I said it before, I like Jones. He is not an every down back and was, surprisingly, misused in Dallas, but he is a mismatch, has speed, can catch and can return kicks; which saves a starter of 2nd stringer from getting injured and he still has value. I think Mayonet goes to the PS. My initial thought was Harbor and Celek better be worried. Ertz and Casey are Chip guys and the bodies need to come from someplace. Worst case scenario is that he is another body in camp to save reps. I think he sticks

All I know is that when Felix Jones was in the Cowboys backfield last season, I blew a sigh of relief. He seems to have really lost a step. Perhaps it is due to all the injuries.

I just can't see a case for him on the opening day roster.

I don' know about the lost step but it's a low risk move. He's still young and is a former first rounder who showed a lot of ability -- WHEN HEALTHY. He always seemed to be banged up and questionable to start. Maybe splitting carries with 2 other RBs will keep him healthy and allow him to flourish. Like I said, I think it's a low risk move that may pay dividends.

This is the first move made by Chip & Co. that I disagree with. If he makes the active roster and sees some playing time, he'll be injured before the third game. Waste of money IMO, but I could be wrong.

I am OK with it, though I wonder what he offers that the other prospects (McCoy, Brown excepted) do not besides experience.

Hey Stock, I remember one year Westbrook was the only healthy RB on the roster during TC. We need a lot of bodies,, and he qualifies!

I don't like him because of where he's coming from,BUT I never saw him as a back who needed a bunch of carries to set up the defense. IMO getting the ball to him in a wide open field could be deadly and limited carries is exactly what he needs,but...............
We're looking for people that are fundamentally different,” vice president of player personnel Andy Weidl said Saturday night. “The love and passion for football, it's non-negotiable. They're caring, their character, they do the right thing persistently, and they have a relentless playing style that you can see on tape. The motor, it burns hot. You see them finishing plays. They have a team-first mentality. They're selfless individuals.

Look at it the other way MM. He gets fired from Dallas and comes here and plays great-sweet!

And even better, after he plays great in Dallas, Felix uses his connections to get into Jerry's private suite and then shits on Jerry's face when he's lying there passed out drunk with a couple of crack whores.

I really think that could happen!

I expect nothing out of Felix, so I know that I won't be disappointed. I think it's 50/50 he makes the roster.

The way I look at it is: if he was any good, Jerruh wouldn't have let him go. Jerruh and Felix both played for Arkansas. Jerruh therefore had an emotional attachment to Felix, and must have really seen the writing on the wall to break that attachment.

Actually Stock, Jerruh wanted to keep Felix. But Head Coach Jason Garrett,
who has the final say on all player personnel matters, overruled Jerruh.
Jerruh complained quietly to son Steven about the decision and briefly considered contesting
the issue with Head Coach Jason Garrett, but after getting the feared 'stony stare' from

                            ...

Jerruh quickly withdrew his objection and resumed drinking
bourbon and branch from a large sippy cup emblazoned with
a picture of him taken following his 769th face lift.
