I know, MD. It's maddening how inconsistent this team remains. But, being in NY, hammering the Mets is very, very satisfying!

Two down, two to go. We need a broom sweeping emoticon!

Good to see that Wolf is making a strong comeback:

          From Philly.com:
But for the second consecutive night, a Phillies lefthander stymied the Mets.

          That's key.

Not only does Wolf feel as if he's finally back - he had not pitched more than 51/3 innings in his first three starts back after Tommy John surgery - but he also gives the rotation more stability.

"It's all about pitching," Lieberthal said. "We need to win those 2-1 games, those 3-2 games. Anytime you look at a guy like Randy Wolf, who's only made a few starts and he's getting better with every start, that's encouraging. It makes a huge difference, because it takes pressure off guys like [Scott] Mathieson. Randy Wolf has been the biggest improvement on the whole staff."

"It feels great," Wolf said. "The first step was just being back out there. It took me a few starts to put some things together and relax and trust my stuff. It's been a fun progression, but it also helps when the team comes out swinging like they did today."

With the trades, expectations are lower and the young and/or new guys are getting a chance to play. This team is fun to watch. I'm more interested now than before. I will once again say I'm not getting any hopes up until they reach .500. They are 2 games away from that. They can make a race of the wildcard but they are not a legitimate contender until they reach .500. With that said - can't wait for game 3 tonight.

Wolf coming back IMO was HUGE for this team. Really provided the lift we needed at the right time.

2.5 back, behind 3 teams. This is do-able.

PFOH - at this point - what would you be willing to offer Wolf in terms of a contract. I get the feeling that Wolf would give some sort of home team discount based on the $ already spent on him this past year. Perhaps a 2 year deal that is incentive laden but still fair? 2 years, $8 MM with some kickers? That sounds about right to me - not sure if it works for Wolf.

now, we can only pray that after tomorrow its not phils 25, mets 12
Five straight losses, including a crucial one at Dallas on Christmas Day, send them out against Atlanta, needing the win, plus help. -Dr. Z, 8/31/06

The fan side of my brain says, "Hopefully Wolf will show some loyalty to the Phils and give them a discount since they paid him a lot of money to rehab"

The reality side of my brain says that there are a lot of teams out there desperate for the #2/3 left handed starter and would probably overpay Wolf.

Totally agree and is exactly how I feel. Loyalty id fine in mental workshops and college campuses... but in the real world bizznezz is bizzness. It will all depend on the type of "man" Wolfy turns out to be.

Or the Phils will need to part with a bunch more of the abreu fund than they planned.
