  • NFC Status

NFC is still really up for grabs as should have been expected after only 8 weeks, but there are 7-9 teams that seem to have possible playoff paths...

The bad thing about the Eagles loss to AZ is not only that it drops us to 5-2 and thus allows the pack to catch up to us, but also AZ is a NFC challenger and thus we now lose two tiebreakers (SF, AZ).

So we have: PHI, SF, Seattle, AZ, Dallas, GB, Detroit and probably Carolina & New Orleans since someone needs to win that division and the other might be good enough to hang around.

I feel ok eliminating STL, Chicago, MIN, TB, ATL, NYG and WSH for now, but acknowledge that several of those teams could be capable of making a run.

    Dallas & AZ: 6-1
    Detroit: 6-2
    Eagles: 5-2
    GB: 5-3
    SF & Seattle: 4-3
    CAR: 3-4-1
    New Orleans & NYG: 3-4
    Chicago & MIN: 3-5
    WSH & STL: 2-5
    ATL: 2-6
    TB: 1-6

Things just got more interesting with the Dallas loss- couldn't come at a better time.

    And they have AZ next.

Long way to go and most teams are still able to make a run even though it will be tough for a few of them. The good thing---Our birds are in the thick of it.

Yeah, the birds need to keep taking care of their business. Everyone looks very beatable and no one looks dominant but a few have shown the ability to really look good at a given time. New Orleans and Green Bay have had real good games and real stinkers. They are dark horses who could put it together. Ariz and the Birds have had real good games but I don't think they have had real bad games. Need to take care of own business and have PO games in Philly

Sanchez has the keys to the car now. And who takes Ryan spot? A lot of questions yet to come.

Giants look buried to me, games v. SEA, GB and Dallas coming up and their offense is stuck in neutral

AZ is very overrated. I would love to get them again.

Hopefully, we'll bury CAR this week....we really need GB or NO to choke a few games away

We outplayed them, but man do they have some receivers! Who is that #12 guy for them anyway? Good hands and the guy can fly.

Sure, but they do have elite QB and thus if the rest of their team can perform at a certain level they could give us all we could handle IMO...

GB and NO are vulnerable teams (just like Sea/AZ/SF/et al) but I would never sell Rogers or Brees short nor would I sell their coaching staff short (as much as I hate to say that about Payton). The birds are in the thick of it but they have to take care of their own house first.

The Eagles are in pretty good shape right now to get a 1st round playoff bye; the key for them (besides winning the division obviously) will be to finish ahead of the Lions and/or Packers. The game at Green Bay in a couple weeks is obviously big; a win there would go a long way in helping the Eagles towards that 1st round bye by not only allowing them to win a head-to-head tiebreaker with Green Bay but also helping their common opponents record in a tiebreaker with Detroit. The Lions only have 1 conference loss right now (vs 2 for the Eagles), though that loss was against a common opponent (Carolina). Detroit's remaining schedule also looks more challenging than the Eagles' schedule, at least in terms of tougher road games:

                              Eagles schedule
                              vs Panthers
                              at Packers
                              vs Titans
                              at Cowboys
                              vs Seahawks
                              vs Cowboys
                              at Redskins
                              at Giants

                              Lions schedule
                              vs Dolphins
                              at Cardinals
                              at Patriots
                              vs Bears
                              vs Buccaneers
                              vs Vikings
                              at Bears
                              at Packers

Incidentally, I had a feeling during the Cardinals game the Eagles would play them again this season. Though the Cardinals are a good team, I feel confident the Eagles can take them, regardless where that game is played.
