Sounds like he was killed in Australia by a stingray barb. He had a 2 year old son I believe..very sad.

    Sad indeed...

Although many times watching him on TV defyind venomous snakes and crocs, I mumbled to myself that one day he'll be gone from one of those...

    RIP.

I'm pretty sure he had 2 kids. I think he also had a daughter who was about 6 or 7. That really sucks.

I liked that guy. As a parent his show was entertaining. I wish everyone in the world (myself included) had his enthusiasm for life.

Well said YPCM. For someone who regularly tangled with some of the most dangerous animals in Australia to be killed by one that is considered docile is ironic. Condolences to his family.

Yeah, his death (which is a damn fooking shame) was the equivalent of a NASCAR driver having an 18 wheeler tip over on him while driving a mellow stretch of interstate.

It's pissing me off hearing all the people muttering "he deserved it sooner or later with all the dangerous animals he handled". They let amateur snorkelers with 5 minutes of experience play with stingrays in the Cayman Island, ferchrissakes. It was a one in a million shot due to hitting below the ribcage and piercing the heart.

He was good for all of us and it's just a lack of education on anybodies part to not realize how important people like Steve are for everyone. He only taught good things about great animals- Somebody needed to do the job- and Steve was in God's eye for that responsibility. His children will be proud of their Daddy.

I can understand people thinking that it was bound to happen sooner or later but the f would say he deserved it. All he did was entertain millions of people and taught them a thing or two about animals.

I never watched a lot of his stuff but I respected his work.

Hey, I never meant to sound off saying that he deserved it! I simply thought what he did was dangerous. Nothing against it, it was his life and his choice, and I think everyone should respect that.

I thought so, but I wasn't clear enough on my post earlier, so even if you had, I wouldn't think that you'd have no reason to think so.

I think the guy was a phenomenal character, and certainly one of those people that deserve worldwide attention for what they do (rather than our politicians and CEOs).

It was totally a fluke incident. Think of all the risks ... and they were risks he took handling all those creatures ... he took and then to have it end that way ... unbelievable. At least the guy impressed me as someone who enjoyed life and lived it to the fullest.

Hate to say it folks ... but you never know.

I watched him all the time and I'll miss his show a lot. I would be watching with my wife and would tell her that his days were numbered. I thought it would be one of those crocs or snakes that got him though. I feel horrible for his family, I couldn't imagine not being there for my boy.
