  • At what point does a team say "screw you" to a QB?

I'm listening to David Carr of Oakland talking about his contract situation. He's been on the NFL Channel all week and yesterday said his agent is taking care of it but you also have to keep in mind that there is a salary cap and you have to have good players around you to win. How friekin refreshing was that!!! One of these Super Stars finally gets it!

I'm wondering how a player feels playing with Kurt Cousins? Last year he turned down a 5 year $100 million contract. I think this year he's franchised again for about $24 million. He's got the Skins by the balls now because if they franchise him in 2018 he gets $30 million! If you are a Redskin and are up for a new contract and your GM tells you "sorry, we'd like to pay you but Kurt has all the dough for this year" how the heck do you play with the guy knowing the money that he has turned down?

Ssssshhhh, let the foreskins keep it rolling right along
We're looking for people that are fundamentally different,” vice president of player personnel Andy Weidl said Saturday night. “The love and passion for football, it's non-negotiable. They're caring, their character, they do the right thing persistently, and they have a relentless playing style that you can see on tape. The motor, it burns hot. You see them finishing plays. They have a team-first mentality. They're selfless individuals.

I know that I singled him out MM, but he's not the only QB to hold up a club. It's really got to piss a lot of guys off listening them squeeze a few more Million out of the team's dough every year.

Wait until next year is a terrible philosophy

Cousins' goal may be to play QB somewhere else. In that case, you turn down contract offers even if they are the highest offer. (Not that he could field any other offers last year.) He has to get to free agency before he has a choice of teams.

Scott Rolen turned down some decent money from the Phillies (though I think eventually did even better with the Cardinals).

Also... the details can matter on a contract like that. If it was $100 million, but only $20 million guaranteed (basically i.e. a one-year contract with team options), it may not have actually signaled much commitment. The team would probably leak that info to make the player look bad in the eyes of their fans, though that's a pretty low thing to do (Phillies also used to do that quite often so they would avoid backlash when trading players away or otherwise losing them, with Rolen as another example -- they smeared him on his way out of town by leaking supposed contract details that he turned down).

Drew Brees is a perfect example. The Saints paid him $20 M last year and will hand him $25 M this year and he gets to renegotiate the final three years after this season if he decides to play longer. Meanwhile they have to cut players because they're over the cap.... $20-30 Million over the cap! Granted all their cap problems aren't from Brees but they paid the guy $45 for 2 years and are looking at ANOTHER massive contract to keep him for the next 2 years he says he wants to play.

Yup. He was example #2 if it weren't for this crazy Cousins situation. I used to think that he was a great guy until he pulled that shit Juk. Kurt Warner pulled the same crap too after I thought that he was the All American Boy. Peyton Manning (whose family now owns half of Mississippi) used to pull the same crap.

My favorite of all time was Neil Donahue who left Pittsburg after losing to Dallas in the SB for a little better contract and was out of football 2 years later. At least his teammates didn't have to be jealous of the contract LOL. Of course the Atlanta guys weren't to thrilled with the stiff.

He's the first one to come to mind. Had he done a Brady, he might have had the pieces for a ring or 2
