Sidney Jones is set to give the Philadelphia Eagles some extra help in the secondary.
Jones has been on the Physically Unable to Perform list for the first six weeks after missing the entire training camp and preseason with an Achilles injury. The Eagles second-round draft pick hinted at his return to the practice field with this tweet.

In case you're wondering what "7" Jones is referring to, it's Week 7...the first week Jones is eligible to practice with the team and come off the PUP list.
Based on Jones' status, he seems to be on schedule with his rehab and ready to begin practicing.
If Jones is not ready to practice by Week 7, the Eagles have another six-week window for him to begin practicing. If Jones isn't ready to practice by Week 12, he remains on the PUP list for the rest of the season.
If Jones does practice in Week 7, the Eagles have 21 days to activate him, release him, or keep him on the PUP list for the rest of the season. With that 21-day timetable, the latest Jones could play would be Week 10 (the Eagles bye week). His return would then be Week 11 against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, November 19.
We're looking for people that are fundamentally different,” vice president of player personnel Andy Weidl said Saturday night. “The love and passion for football, it's non-negotiable. They're caring, their character, they do the right thing persistently, and they have a relentless playing style that you can see on tape. The motor, it burns hot. You see them finishing plays. They have a team-first mentality. They're selfless individuals.

We'll see. Look how far McDougal has come since the beginning of camp. Eric Rowe took awhile too. It's taken Agholor 3 years to have a clue. I just think that it's unrealistic for a rookie to contribute a whole lot that late in the season. I think the key is to get Darby back and Cox as soon as we can. Has anybody heard anything about Darby?

I just want Fletcher Cox to return ASAP. Darby would also be a big help. But, having Cox present sets the tone for all the offensive schemes against our D.

Jones would be a bonus. But like others have said, I can't see him stepping in and having a major impact this year.

My sneaking suspicion is they will keep him out of practice until week 8, then practice for three weeks, then bring him in game 12. Playing 5 games instead of six means he doesn't get a league year accrued, meaning he would be a restricted free agent after his rookie contract is up. If he's not really going to be ready before game 11 anyways, they may want to just wait another week for that.

On the other hand, if he's ready early and the Eagles are desperate for CB help, may not be worth it to play such games. If he was actually ready-ish by game 8, and the Eagles are in contention, that could be worth it. Just have a hard time believing that a rookie CB who did not get any offseason/preseason time would be ready to actually play without that maximum 3 weeks of practice.

Do not rush him back.... But any playing time he gets will help going into next year.

Agreed. Do NOT rush him back. But, if the Dr.s are good with him practicing, and he's comfortable physically and mentally, then get him practicing, and once he's in football shape, start giving him some reps.

Absolutely don't rush him back. Is he allowed to attend meetings now and stay mentally up to speed? If so the bye week won't be that important because the teams don't practice much or at all that week. It's the coaches who keep on grinding. The only advantage for Jones would be classroom study and if he's ready that way he's good.

Getting Darby back is the most important one. Even if Jones comes back he is going to be eased into the lineup. He is still a rookie and as we have seen with Douglas he will be up and down.

Right now Patrick Robinson is playing the best of our corners, Mills has been solid but limited due to speed concerns. Douglas has some promise like Bobby Taylor promise.
Were from Philly F in Philly no one likes us we DON'T CARE!

They are all playing better than expected and that could be a result of better pressure on the QB. I imagine Jernigan has a lot to do with that. We really need Darby back! Mills was very good Sunday but can't run with the big dogs.

I have to believe the pressure helps a lot. I'd add that the CBs are not bad CBs. They just aren't great CBs. The addition of one real high end guy (who gets along with people and can mentor others) would make them a top caliber NFL defensive backfield
Wait until next year is a terrible philosophy
                      Hope is not a strategy

When we get cox back the DB's automatically get a bit better.

The DB's are playing better then I think most of us expected ---- had we known about the early body losses.

                          Robinson playing well-BGN

Robinson has only allowed one reception for every 14.3 coverage snaps, which ranks fifth best in the league. In 100 slot coverage snaps, Robinson has allowed seven catches for 128 yards and one touchdown. He also has an interception and four passes defensed. Robinson has tackled well; he ranks second overall in PFF’s “stop percentage.”

The Eagles’ secondary has their fair share of issues but Robinson isn’t a major one. He’s turned out to be a good bargain-bin signing for Philly.

IMO if Jones comes back, you bring him back when 100% and not until then. He would be a great addition. This team has real promise, get all the studs we can into the lineup
