Open letter to all my fellow Eagle Die Hards----
I reflect back on my 60+ years of being infected with Eagleness, my 19 years of posting on the internet, from Philly Dot Com, to PhilaPhans to Sports Column--- And I can say with certainty that I have enjoyed just about every minute of it.
I know for some the only thing that seemed to matter was that SB win, anything else was a failure....... but for me it was always about the “RIDE”. The entertainment, the anticipation, and the enjoyment of each and every summer getting that hopeful feeling-- only to see it end with a loss(Minus 1960 of course). But I (we) all keep coming back for more. Fools? Maybe, but loyal fools. Passionate fools!
I have been lucky enough to witness 2 World Series Championships (in person), 1 NBA Championship, 2 Stanley Cup Championships and now maybe the greatest one of all --- A SB Championship. I understand that there are many people who just don't get sports, just like I don't get the Opera, or the Ballet or most Art. But what I also know is that if you “get” sports, especially Philly sports, your ownership in these things is so much more powerful than those “others” can imagine or understand!
While I have had my share of ups and downs over these last 19 years, on these boards, I hold steadfast in my feeling that I was always true, not only to my self but to my “fandom”. I have disagreed with many on these boards, some vehemently, but it was never a dishonest expression. And despite the belief of some, never personally. If I had to change things, maybe I would a few, but the highs and positives I have received from our exchanges, for 19 years, have been a real good and positive part of my life.
I am very sad that many many of our posters have fallen by the wayside, I truly hope that some will return, but I don't hold out much hope after talking to many of them. And I personally dedicate this SB win to 2 people that I was truly blessed to get to know well and am so sad that they could not be here to witness our ultimate Win--- Jeff Lamana and Mike (Fresh) Willey! Thanks Guys!!
And to Eagle 60, Popper, My friend Mike ------- Hey Bud We got one, we got one!!! Thanks for always being there!
The list is endless, Jukin, J-Bird, Eaglebreath, TP, MM, Ross, VFK, Stock, Pliny, Taz, AW, NoDak, Rspurr ...just to name a few---- Thanks!
The future looks so bright for this team now that this monkey, this weight, has been lifted! I can see 4 more SB's down the road!.
So I just wanted to take sometime to thank all of you, yes ALL, for being a part of my “Eagleness” for the past 19 years. And I look forward, God Willing, for 19 more!
