Richard Sherman found a flaw in Jimmy Garoppolo

With five games won in a row to add to his two winning starts in New England, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo has been nothing short of impressive. There’s not a doubt in my mind he’ll hit a low point in his career—all quarterbacks do—once defenses get more film on him, but it’s all about how he adjusts to those adjustments.

Well, this is one such example that defenses will write down. Cornerback Richard Sherman spoke to the press during mandatory minicamp, and provided an example of what just what defenses may look for when making the book on Garoppolo, Patrick Holloway of Ninersnation reports.

“You just need to read him—hand off ball; he’s letting it go. You have to be decisive when you make those decisions. If he takes his hand off the ball and doesn’t throw it, I think he’ll throw guys off, but when he takes his hand off the ball, you’ve got to be ready to break. ”

The good news is—this is something easily coachable and right now, Garoppolo isn’t really worried about tells in his game. He’s worried about diagnosing the playbook and learning all the lingo.

Telegraphing when he is going to throw the ball
Wait until next year is a terrible philosophy
    Hope is not a strategy

I realize that ND, but did you ever see a guy throw a ball with 2 hands? I have no idea wtf he was talking about.

No, can't throw with two hands but lots of QBs will hold the ball with one hand while looking around for receiver. Some go from one hand to two and back without throwing. Evidently Garrapollo only takes his one hand off when he is ready to throw. That is all I can get from it

Maybe he meant that he pats the ball before he throws it. Any QB that holds the ball with one hand after Pop Warner Football isn't playing unless the guy ahead of him breaks a leg. The more that I think about it the more I think that he just said it to make a point to reporters. He was a great student at Stanford and is smart enough not to give away trade secrets, especially at his age. The way it came out made him sound silly though.
