Report: Raiders' Porter seen laughing at loss
Posted: 19 hours ago
It was clear for all to see Monday night that the Oakland Raiders have some serious on-the-field issues. Their 27-0 home defeat to the San Diego Chargers spoke loudly, as did the boos of the home fans.
But there are off-the-field problems as well, and they may begin with what to do with disgruntled wide receiver Jerry Porter.
Porter, who was declared inactive for Monday's regular-season opener, was seen laughing and pumping his fist near the Raiders bench after Oakland quarterback Aaron Brooks was sacked for the seventh time, the San Francisco Chronicle reported in its game blog Monday night.
Porter has clashed with Raiders coach Art Shell and has demanded to be traded. He has been slowed by a calf injury suffered early in training camp. Porter was a starter for the Raiders last season, but his role with the team under Shell appears to have diminished.
Doug Gabriel started all five exhibition games opposite Randy Moss. After Gabriel was traded to New England, Alvis Whitted was named the starter, and Porter continued to languish.
Shell, asked about his decision to deactivate Porter Monday, said: "We have five receivers and I decided we'd go with the other four guys."
