  • D just gave up 21 in 4th --- but wait there is more to it,

Eagles have highest percentage of 3-and-outs in fourth quarter!!!!

The source of the Philadelphia Eagles collapse against the Carolina Panthers was a systemic problem that was weeks in the making, thanks to an inefficient offense that failed to generate moving the ball when the Eagles defense needed to be off the field. Per SportRadar, the Eagles have a three-and-out percentage of 28.6 percent in the fourth quarter this season, which is the highest in the NFL.

That 28.6 percent was in full effect during Sunday's collapse. After the Panthers just the lead to 17-14, the Eagles went three-and-out with three passes.

It was definitely a group gag MD. I've read so many bad articles about how the team is choking this year it's driving me nuts. Jeffries is playing his ass off and so is Cox. The team plays hard. I just don't' get it really. Too many injuries just keep piling up and our secondary keeps coming up small at crunch time. I read something else about how bad Wentz has been in the 4th quarter statically too but I'm not really buying that because a lot of those included his rookie year stats with garbage receivers. We've just got to play better for 60 minutes!!

I wonder how conditioning plays into that or how play calling (changing up or keeping the same plan) plays in to it. I'd also be curious as to the conversations on the sideline in the 4th. Are guys making after game plans with eight minutes left or are they still looking at how the game is evolving.
Whatever reason that is not a good stat.
Wait until next year is a terrible philosophy
      Hope is not a strategy

Carson had Smallwood wide open for a first down on 3rd down of the last series but opted to go for 6 and forced a pass to Jefferys. I'm not sure I can blame him for going to his best receiver there but we would have had a first down if he didn't.

Thought--- Are we missing Blount, Bell or even Ajayi in the 4th?

There has definitely been a theme that this loss was on the offense. Frankly I find that offensive. Now the offense does play a part in it now doubt. We have to understand this is not the offense running game of last year. We are down to our 3rd, 4th and 5th string running backs, one that is hurting. Not only that two of them are undrafted free agents. Blame Howie for that but you can't predict injuries. Ajayi going down really hurt this team. I don't think Wentz trusts Smallwood AND honestly I get it. Wentz has to learn to trust him, if smallwood drops the ball which by the way there was a 50-50 chance he does, then it would why did he throw to smallwood.

Now defensively they are paid to protect 17 point leads in the 4th quarter. Schwartz and company gave up huge chunk plays, bit on double moves, fell down ,missed tackles and didn't get pressure on the QB. They played not to lose vs. playing to win.

These stats are YTD, not being tied to this specific loss.

Of course the D should be able to protect a 17 point lead, nobody disputes this.... point was/is that the O had been anemic all year in the 4th.

I think that they've been anemic all year MD. Outside of the Giant game the offense just isn't getting it done.

As Jason Kelce would say "ITS THE WHOLE TEAM". I know you have said this many times MDFAN and I agree with you, they are complacent right now. When you have your star safety in Malcolm Jenkins worrying more about Colin Kapernick getting into the league than winning this year you have problems. I mean come on, you are going to rip the next opponents QB saying based on what you saw from him Kapernick should be the QB. Its ok for him to think that but not OK to say that to motivate another team at his teams expense. He should have said that when they beat the Jaqs this weekend. Not now.

If I am Howie I have to think about dealing Jenkins. I know the secondary is a mess but I can't imagine he is a good influence on the young players at this point. What does this say to Maddox and Sidney Jones etc.

BTW this rant has nothing to do with the Players Coalition etc. Its more the time and place and where Jenkins mind is. During a game it should be on winning games not about Colin Kapernick etc.

                    Nothing here I disagree with.

Players seem to forget that this is a business to the teams--- and no team wants the distraction that a Kapernick brings with him, and besides he wasn't all that great 3 years ago-- they think he got better?

                    1. Players refuse to see what a guy like that would do to a franchise.
                    2. Players refuse to acknowledge that he is THAT good.
                    3. Players are thinking with their agendas, not logically.
                    4. Players seem to forget, a lot, that they are employees, and
therefore get paid to play and not tell teams who they should and
                    shouldn't hire.
                    5. This is politics and frankly the fans don't want politics brought into
                    their escape time.

Yea this is silly. Is there anyone in their right mind that would have said this 10 weeks ago. You have absolutely no idea of his influence on the young players. You have absolutely no idea what it is saying to Maddox and Jones. Jenkins is one of the few players actually playing. Sell your (and MDs) agenda somewhere else
For the record I don't think he should be saying this because I don't think you should be saying anything to give another team more reason to come for you. And I don't think Kapernick is anything special as a QB; certainly no more so than the other "good but not great" QBs in the league. And Jenkins has every right to an opinion as anyone else.

Sorry, I am eating crow here, as I did not mean to agree with getting rid of Jenkins I was only referring to the majority of the post about Kapernick.

Getting rid of the heart and soul of the team Jenkins??? That's just crazy. Every locker room speech after the game they gather around him for his leadership. Doug says something but then they gather around him. He's the one firing the guys up before the games too. How can that even be suggested? I'm just worried what happens when he retires, not fire the guy!!!

Why is this silly? You have a player openingly ripping and giving bulletin board material to the team you are about to play in order to promote his own personal agenda. I am sorry, with the way this team is playing right now the last thing I need to hear from Malcolm Jenkins is about Colin Kapernick, opinion or not. Its not like the writers asked him his opinion of Bortles,he volunteered it. I want to hear from Jenkins about what they are going to do to fix this mess in the secondary. It just says that Jenkins mind is not with helping this team its on his agenda.

Right now this defensive secondary shouldn't be saying anything bad about any QB they are facing Go out and stop em then if you want to talk about it afterwards go for it.

Crazy no, shot across the bow of the team that is not practicing well, not playing well on game days YES. Sometimes you have to make tough moves to move a team forward. If Jenkins is the leader and his mind is on Colin Kapernick and not on how to stop a team from scoring 21 points in the 4th corner then I don't need a leader like that.
