  • OT: Wilson HS Football Coach (Unreal. This has to be seen!)

What a complete ass. You guys have to watch this. This was the coach of Wilson High School - the same school that Kerry Collins and Chad Henne went to. It's in Reading, PA, which is where I grew up (although I went to a different high school.)

He was fired last year for embezzeling money from a summer football camp program right into his private bank account. But from what I see in this video, he should have been fired and then had his balls cut off a long time ago.

That video isn't that bad. What did he do wrong? He did go a little overboard on putting his hands on that guys head, but overall he was just real intense trying to get his team fired up. I think the video is kind of funny.

I don't have a problem with that. Maybe he shouldn't have touched his player but they sure seemed fired up.
We're looking for people that are fundamentally different,” vice president of player personnel Andy Weidl said Saturday night. “The love and passion for football, it's non-negotiable. They're caring, their character, they do the right thing persistently, and they have a relentless playing style that you can see on tape. The motor, it burns hot. You see them finishing plays. They have a team-first mentality. They're selfless individuals.

          Huh?

Sorry, that guy is a whack-job.

I don't mean to sound like a puss, but coaches like that are one of the reasons why high school sports have gotten out of hand. High school sports are supposed to be about sportsmanship, having fun, learning to play a game, etc. Not acting like it's life or death like you're an f-ing lunatic. I don't think any 15 or 16 year old should think that sports are so important that if he loses he is an "embarassment" or that he's let himself, his school or his coach down "after all he's worked for his entire life." That's not what it should be about. The guy is insane.

A little intense maybe but I have to admit, I was ready to go play after watching that tape. I think that is typical football stuff. Hell my coach used to break lockers and stuff. And we would kick the piss out of Wilson, those no pride havin' pussies.

These High School players are trying to play big time college football, so I don't think he's asking too much from his players. High School football is almost like life and death in certain states like Texas, Florida, Ohio, and yes PA. The last time football is just about sportmanship is pee wee football. After that then it gets serious.

Until they stop paying millions of dollars to pro atheletes, high school football will be a very important stepping stone for potential college and pro players.

Whether it's right or wrong that's just the way it is. I just don't find anything wrong with that footage. The coach was trying to get his team ready for the game after they got their asses handed to them the previous week.

From what I've seen of some HS kids acting like primadonas, giving umpires and coaches shit, I think more coaches should actually be that way.Kids are babied way too much anymore. I think parents are far worse than coaches.

You think kids act like that because they are babied and because you don't have a coach screaming at them, acting like a lunatic, slamming them in the chest and trying to humiliate them for losing? I've coached sports for years. I can tell you that you are wrong.

Kids act the way they do because they are allowed to, or because they have a parent who acts like a moron, or a coach who acts like a moron. The problem is that kids are impressionable. 99.9% of these kids are never making it to the pros. HS Sports are supposed to be a foundation for learning to cope with the ebs and flo of winning and losing - because LIFE is essentially a series of ups and downs. If you guys think that guy is a good role model for winding through life, I am truly scared for the children of the people on this board.

The guy seems to be over the top when trying to fire up the kids for the game. Honestly, I don't think it worked in this instance. The players probably heard the same bs again and again. I just looked at the body language after the speech and this didn't seem like a team that was "fired up".

Just another coach trying to live his glory days through high-schoolers. Reminding the kids that "they" don't want to be remembered like that. Uhh... coach, they won't. Many of them are playing for sport and honestly dn't give a crap what they did in high school. They'll go to college and make lifelong friends. They won't come back to the high school every week during the season and come to the games. They'll have lives.

Even though I believed the speech was over the top, it was simply cause and effect. We saw the effect of this team having their arses handed to them the week before. Should these kids have been consoled after that type of loss? Or should these kids have been told to get off their arses, dust off their clothes and get back out there and play like they should? While the method might not be as effective, the general gist of the speech the coach gave came from a basic lesson some of us learned years ago. If you lose, get back up and try to win next time.

While the method might have been different, the message was still the same.

                              BUMP:

What do you think? Should we have this guy give the Eagles the pre-game speech this week? Seems like we have a few members of the team that might *need* this.
