  • (Somewhat OT)How Extremeskins saved me from suicide!

Not a joke...I don't do jokes...Jukin and MD won't let me get a union card. But I do find the following situation both humorous and instructive:

I suspect many of us would like to see a little more activity on EFO, which is after all, a relatively new board. BUT, be careful what you wish for...

EXAMPLE: Extreme Skins has become an absolute zoo!

Sunday night, after I accepted the fact that my wife had carefully hidden the Hemlock and all the sharp implements in the house, I logged onto Extremeskins to take some dark pleasure in the misery of Skin's fans upon the realization that their defense is over rated and their offense is DOA. It was the on-line equivalent of rush hour in the Tokyo Subway and Omaha Beach on D Day.

Over 3200 members were logged on and, it seems, 3150 had something they "just had to post". There were over 6500 posts on the "Game Thread" by the 3rd quarter, and related "rant threads" were popping up faster that the overwhelmed mods could lock or delete them. It was absolute mayhem! I loved it!!

But even on a slow day, the place is a wasteland of insignificance, where hundreds of posters are trying to come up with an idea that hasn't been uttered, consumed and regurgitated by 43 other guys already that day. Coherent exchanges between serious &/or knowledgeable members are next to impossible because of all the infantile and vacuous crap that floods the board.

Members can optionally state their ages, and most do. Shaving is an activity still on the horizon for all too many. While the passion of youth is to be admired, forgive me if I don't take notes when a 16 year old announces, "This Redskin team could be the best of all time" . Questions regarding "What 'Coach Gibbs' has for breakfast on gameday" or "Was John Riggins stronger than Superman" would be relatively thought provoking compared to most of the watery pablum that currently hits the screen.

I understand that Extremeskins merged with the official Redskin website a year or so ago. Art, who I gather was the main man at Extremeskins, assured the faithful that things would only "get better with the expansion". I wonder what Art thinks now that he's reached the promised land!

As for me , I much prefer a community where you can develop a sense of the other members and know who you can comfortably break balls with and who is here primarily for X's and O's.

That's my story, and I'm stickin' to it.

I think we are close to hitting our prime traffic on this site. There are new posts nearly every time I log in, but not so many that it takes me an hour or two to catch up with everything.

The peak of traffic on this site was when Stallworth signed.

Seriously? It hasn't beeen highest on oneof the game days? Surprising.

And tino, nice post. I WOULD like to see a bit more traffic here. But I remember going to the Extremeskins board when they were playing Minny, and that place was absolutely nuts. I couldn't refresh my screen fast enough to keep up with the insane number of rants that were popping up.

I guess, when you sum it up, I'm a boy more suited to Mayberry, than Manhattan. Welcome to Mayberry, boys.

It's still a new site IMO and it will take awhile to really get rolling. I still post on PP, but mostly on the Phils site. I want it busy, and this time of the year is the time if it ever will be.

Extreme skins must be a hoot, millions of people on suicide watch.

No.. I don't know where everybody is on Gameday. It's the only part of this that concerns me.

              * Watching the game. I don't typically post when I'm watching the game. Week 1 was the exception.

Me too. The only time i'll post DURING a game is if it's a Seattle-style blowout like last year on MNF

I can only post on gameday if the game is being shown on local TV out here. Hasn't happened yet this season...
The definition of insanity is to continually repeat the same action and expect different results.

Thus the Redskins and their fans are, by definition, insane.

I don't post during games either. I'll check in at halftime to the boards.

                        Speaking of ES.com...

Over on CF we have a thread (we had one last year too) where we point and laugh at the Redskins and Extremeskins.com. They have some golden nuggets of humor on that MB. I read it everyday and its great to see them struggling now. ES.com is why I hate the Skins the most in our division.

I also tend not to post during the games and depending on how the games go--- many times not even on gameday at all.

Thanks Freshie.... and yeah, sometimes, I just couldn't deal with the "tone and tenor" as it were.

Hey TP, great post bud, you crack me the hell up! And it is for that very proprietary reason you ain't allowed to get that union card.
