Not a joke...I don't do jokes...Jukin and MD won't let me get a union card. But I do find the following situation both humorous and instructive:
I suspect many of us would like to see a little more activity on EFO, which is after all, a relatively new board. BUT, be careful what you wish for...
EXAMPLE: Extreme Skins has become an absolute zoo!
Sunday night, after I accepted the fact that my wife had carefully hidden the Hemlock and all the sharp implements in the house, I logged onto Extremeskins to take some dark pleasure in the misery of Skin's fans upon the realization that their defense is over rated and their offense is DOA. It was the on-line equivalent of rush hour in the Tokyo Subway and Omaha Beach on D Day.
Over 3200 members were logged on and, it seems, 3150 had something they "just had to post". There were over 6500 posts on the "Game Thread" by the 3rd quarter, and related "rant threads" were popping up faster that the overwhelmed mods could lock or delete them. It was absolute mayhem! I loved it!!
But even on a slow day, the place is a wasteland of insignificance, where hundreds of posters are trying to come up with an idea that hasn't been uttered, consumed and regurgitated by 43 other guys already that day. Coherent exchanges between serious &/or knowledgeable members are next to impossible because of all the infantile and vacuous crap that floods the board.
Members can optionally state their ages, and most do. Shaving is an activity still on the horizon for all too many. While the passion of youth is to be admired, forgive me if I don't take notes when a 16 year old announces, "This Redskin team could be the best of all time" . Questions regarding "What 'Coach Gibbs' has for breakfast on gameday" or "Was John Riggins stronger than Superman" would be relatively thought provoking compared to most of the watery pablum that currently hits the screen.
I understand that Extremeskins merged with the official Redskin website a year or so ago. Art, who I gather was the main man at Extremeskins, assured the faithful that things would only "get better with the expansion". I wonder what Art thinks now that he's reached the promised land!
As for me , I much prefer a community where you can develop a sense of the other members and know who you can comfortably break balls with and who is here primarily for X's and O's.
That's my story, and I'm stickin' to it.
