Colts put DT Simon on non-football injury-illness listESPN.com news services
INDIANAPOLIS -- Former Pro Bowl defensive tackle Corey Simon will miss the rest of the season after being placed on the non-football illness-injury list Thursday by the Indianapolis Colts.
"It is an illness, not an injury, and is unrelated to the knee surgery he had in August," Colts GM Bill Polian said in a news release. "It is not football-related. Fortunately, we are told it is not life-threatening, but it has severely limited Corey's ability to condition, practice or play and has been debilitating for him."
Pollian said the decision was made after tests by team medical personnel and specialists from the Mayo Clinic.
Simon underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left knee in August and hasn't practiced or played since.
Indianapolis signed Simon to a five-year, $30 million contract last September after the Philadelphia Eagles rescinded the franchise tag on him, making the former first-round pick an unrestricted free agent. The deal included $13 million in bonuses, but Simon hasn't paid much dividend on that pricey investment.
Simon, 29, played in 13 games in 2005, all starts, but contributed only 41 tackles and did not have a sack for the first time in his career. A bigger-bodied lineman than the Colts typically employ up front, Simon was to have been a key rotational player at tackle, a defender who could provide muscle against the run.
His absence has forced Indianapolis to alter its tackle rotation and meant that other players have had to log more snaps than originally anticipated.
Well, for a minute lets be realistic here. Maybe he does have some sort of disease, so if that's true and he's not just lazy, I really hope he recovers.
Say all you want about Corey, but betwee 2000 and 2004 he was a big part in our defense...
"You will dress only in attire specially sanctioned by P.E. special services… You are no longer part of the system. You are above the system, over it, beyond it. We're "them." We're "they." We are the Men in Green."
Mayo does specialize in cancer, but their technology (imaging) allows them to assist with other diognosis. So, the Mayo clinic stop could have been just a last exam to be sure it was or was not cancer or to help with other diagnosis.
But, it doesn't help with rumors when you slip in the Mayo Clinic part. If you want to honor medical privacy, don't mention the SPECIALIZED medical facility.
He probably just has a thyroid condition. Being hypo, that could explain his problems with the weight, and also with a decreased energy level. Might just be that simple and they have started him on meds to regulate him. I HOPE it's that simple.
