  • Pre-Draft Visit: LB Logan Wilson

    Excerpt
wilson played defensive back in high school and was incredibly productive at wyoming so it’s no wonder he’s on the eagles’ radar. The redshirt senior finished his college career with 409 total tackles, 34.5 tackles for loss, 14 passes defensed, 10 interceptions, seven sacks, five forced fumbles, and three defensive touchdowns. Pretty good.

The eagles obviously have a need at linebacker with only nathan gerry, t.j. Edwards, duke riley, and alex singleton under contract for 2020. The team could look to draft wilson with one of their two third-round selections with the hopes he can immediately contribute as a rotational player before developing into a full-time starter.

scouting report via nfl.com’s lance zierlein:

Ultra-productive three-year team captain with instincts and cover talent to find work as an every-down linebacker. His play recognition, burst and lateral agility help him play faster than his timed speed and his fundamentals as a tackler are as good as you’ll find in this draft.

Wilson needs more consistency of approach at taking on blocks and it may take him a minute to adjust to nfl game speed. He should be a core special teams member early, but possesses the tangibles and intangibles to become a productive pro as an inside or sam (strong-side) linebacker.

That sentence cracked me up. I guess by noon of the first practice he'll be ready to start.

Yeah, you could almost picture him in practice with the Eli Manning Post INT Stupor face before the light bulb suddenly coming on

I think that Singleton is a good young vet who has proven that he can play when called on. He's a great hitter and was the MVP in the Canadian league. With a year of the NFL under his belt I would think the Birds should give the guy (26) a real shot this year.

I also like Edwards. Unfortunately none of the current LBs have proven they can handle the load even though I see some hope for them.
I like the fact the birds are looking to address LB in the draft. At least it appears they are doing their due diligence with the pre-draft visits and combine visits.
I think there are a couple of gems in free agency that are pretty young (26). My guess is the birds will look to get someone in FA and if they don't they will be ready in the draft.
As for Wilson-- WY is not a high end program by any means but the coaching staff was at NDSU for a number of years including the years they recruited and won with Carson Wentz. Now they are at WY. Not sure if there is anyone there that has particular ties with the Eagles scouts but it wouldn't surprise me
Wait until next year is a terrible philosophy
            Hope is not a strategy
            RIP

That's an interesting angle. I wasn't aware of that.

That same staff also recruited Josh Allen to WY and he is now QBing in the NFL
