  • WR: 2004 vs. 2006

    2004
    *****
    Owens 77-1200, 14 TD
    Pinkston 36-676, 1 TD
    Mitchell 22-377, 2 TD
    Greg Lewis 17-183, 0 TD
    McMullen 3-24, 0 TD

    2006
    ******
    Brown 46-816, 8 TD
    Stallworth 38-725, 5 TD
    Baskett 22-464, 2 TD
    Lewis 24-248, 2 TD
    Avant 7-68, 1 TD

    The 2004 group had 2460 yds, 17 TD's and the 2006 group had 2,421 yards, 18 TD's.

Pretty darn close although I think the depth of talent and production we have this year is better...plus of course we lost TO before the playoffs and had to win 2 games without him...this year we are fully healthy and ready to roll.

how much more have we run the ball this year than in 2004?

I'd say with younger talented players, this years group is much much better

I cannot remember which thread, but I did examine the pass/run % for the games this season...

Up until the 2nd Giants game, we passed roughly between 58-65% and ran between 35-42% which was the typical range of the 2004 season as well...

Then in the Giants & Cowboys games, we were much closer to 55-45 and 50-50 in the Dallas game...

In the Atlanta game, we returned to 65-35% with AJ...

There is some difference is Westy's run production in 2006 vs. 2004 although he played two less games in 2004 due to the starters being rested for the playoffs...

        2004: In 13 games, he had 177 atts for 812 yards w/ 4.6 avg.

        2006: In 15 games, he has 240 atts for 1217 yards w/ 5.1 avg.

His recieving production is very similar both years....but again it is in 2 less games...

        2004: 73 receptions for 703 yards w/ 9.6 avg.

        2006: 77 receptions for 699 yards w/ 9.1 avg.

One could argue he was used less in the pass game this season...and more in the run game although projecting 2 more games onto the totals in 2004 could make it closer...

Pretty close VFK, except that counting Westbrook's one carry for 3 yards and one reception versus the Foulcons is a tad misleading. FWIW, being pulled after one series does not equate fairly, for purposes of this discussion, as a full game. Viewed as a 13 game schedule in 04 versus a 14 game schedule in 06 Westy's numbers look fairly flat receiving and substantially improved by about 1/3 (86.7 yds/game versus 62.5 in 04) in his running performance. Granted such running numbers result from increased yds per carry as well as carries per game but as such they lend credence to the roles of improved OLine performance and Marty's playcalling (under Andy he had a lot of 8, 11 and 13 carry games).

But, FD that would have been the 16th game not the 15th...these stats do not include the Falcons game.

He missed 3 games in 2004...one due to injury and 2 due to the starters being rested.

I think the numbers from FO of his carries per game was @15 and increased to @19 since the Colts game...I do not know his per carry avg. for 2004, but lets assume it is close to what it was earlier this season...

That would give him 30 additional carries in 2004 and he had a 4.6 avg. That is 138 additional yards making his totals 207 carries in 15 games for 950 yards. Is that a reasonable projection based on his track record? IMO yes..

So he definitely got more chances this season and produced well. That fits what my eyes tell me...he has become a more complete player this year and is continuing to grow...that is all the better for the Eagles IMO and how good does extending him look now? Pretty damn good...

Forgive my senility VFK but didn't Westy get injured against the Niners and completely miss the Green Bay game. That makes the Foulcons his 15 game and the stats at NFL.com agree. I just went back and checked. They give the same numbers you do and for his 15 (Atlanta included) games. I have gone through every game on this years schedule to confirm that. That then gives him an adjusted performance of:
              2004 13 games with 177 carries ie 13.6 carries/game @ 4.6 per
              2006 14 games with 239 carries ie 17.1 carries/game @ 5.1 per

              (17/19/8/0/11/16/13/13/22/22/20/15/17/19/26/1)

A pattern may be emerging where Westbrook not only does better but also holds up better when used more. A nice problem to have for the coming post season and the years ahead. A great young RB getting better, taking on more responsibility on and off the field and staying healthier when given a decent workload.

Great catch FD...totally forgot he missed the GB game...thanks for the correction.

So, then I would agree the Falcons game should not be counted...

Too bad for the people who felt he was too fragile to be an every down back!

The WR stats from this year are even more impressive when you consider, as we all know, that McNabb is a better QB than Feeley/Garcia.

Had my own doubts, but great for him and C-Buck!!
