  • Theisman rejects ESPN offer to do college games!

ESPN FINALLY recognized that the terminally smug and self-absorbed Theisman was a cancer in the MNF broadcast both and showed him the door. But, being contractually obligated for big bucks to Joey for the next couple of years, ESPN then offers him an NCAA broadcasting gig. Feeling snubbed...appropriately so...Joey turns down the offer.

"Per the Miami Herald, Joe Theismann has told ESPN that he will not accept an offer to continue his career with the company by working NCAA contests.

"I've been an NFL guy since 1974, so for 33 years now that's been my life. Now you are faced with the prospect of that not being in your future. It would be like training to be a doctor or a lawyer and having them say, 'we would like you to change to another profession.'"

Here's a news flash for Joey! When physicians and/or attorneys show themselves to be as chronically unprepared and incompetent as he has for years, they often get DISBARRED. That's the method their respective licensing groups use to tell offenders, "We would like you to change to another proffesion."

Good riddance and Joey, for once in your life, please STFU!

    T,

I really don't know how to respond. It just mystifies me that a guy who was such a good NFL QB is such a friekin turkey- period.

As many of you know,Joey T was my old neighbor. He wasnt that bad a guy...then. And when he went into the broadcast booth I thought he'd do pretty well. Had the gift for gab, good presence in front of the camera, yada yada,,,,, asically, I thought he would learn, grow, and become a pretty good broadcaster.

Somehow, he didn't get better, he didn't improve. In fact, he got worse. I think his ego swelled, he doesn't appear to be a student of the game or a guy who studies up for his broadcasts, and he has become an absolute joke. Time to step down, Joey-boy. ou had your chance, and YOU BLEW IT!!!!!!

As many of you know, I'm a clown from Western Mass. It just astounds me that he was once married to that dish. Usually, we're the ones that want to put a sock in their mouths!!!

A Personal Tale of 3 NFC East QBs.

Aikman, Simms and Theisman. All good to great NFL QBs, with Super Bowls rings on their fingers. All 3, especially Aikman, often made life miserable for my Birds. I REALLY hated (secretly admired) both Simms and, especially Aikman, but never felt much animosity for Joe. I know this reflects poorly on my character, but I would have taken some warped pleasure in seeing Simm's or Aikman's careers cut short by injury, but honestly felt bad for Joe when Taylor broke his leg. I mention this to demonstrate that I liked Joe and disliked the other 2 ...intensely.

Careers over, all 3 go into NFL broadcasting. Makes good sense. All 3 are bright, personable and reasonably articulate. Of the 3, Joe was by far the most at ease in front of the camera or behind the mike.

Phil and Troy struggled a bit at first, especially Phil. Joe seemed much more at ease..a natural. But early on there were tell tale signs of things to come. He made frequent mistakes with player's name and and made football observations which just didn't make much sense. He was pretty clearly winging it rather than preparing. You got the sense that Joe thought he could get by on charm and blather...lots and lots of blather, all to often about himself. His mistakes were more humorous than anything else but his homerism, when doing Skin's games, grew increasingly unbearable. I grew to really dislike Joe as an announcer.

Meanwhile, the hated Simms and Aikman, whom I had hoped would fall on their faces in the broadcast booth prepared diligently for games, broke down plays effectively, gave us keen insights, and got better at their craft until, IMHO, they are as good as anybody in the trade...with an edge to Aikman. Both show admirable balance and objectivity when doing Gnat and Cowboy games (respectively), show a self-effacing sense of humor and importantly, from my narrow perspective, have given the Birds, #5 and AR ample props. Aikman, who does lots of Eagles games, even shows grudging respect bordering on affection for the passion of Bird fans.

While Simms and Aikman are growing in their craft, Joey is increasingly becoming a cartoon character who, mistakenly, thinks he can contnue to skate through on bullshit alone, just as he always has.

Things come to a head when he joins Kornheiser in the booth. Tony, another guy not burdoned by a lack of self esteem, clearly enjoys poking holes in Joe's mouth-dropping gaffs but, objectively, could broken Joe's balls much more than he did. The opportunities were endless. These guys clearly didn't like one another and neither was likely to change. Somebody had to go!

            Outcome: See ya, Joe.

Final chapter for me...I have come to like and enjoy both Simms and Aikman and would be content never to hear/see Joey T again.

Good post. I agree with the sentiments.

Friggin' Aikman. It bothers me that I actually enjoy listening to him in the booth.

BTW, Jaws and Kornheiser in the same booth? This should be fun stuff.

Jaws has a good sense of humor and a passionate love of the intricacies of the game. As such he could end up being a perfect partner for Cornholer to work off of. I expect them to fit together well.

jaws will be great. The MNF idea of 3 in the booth should of died with Howard Cosell. It's awkward and cumbersome unless there is real chemistry, and for a hell of a long time it's been missing. Kornhole is better off on PTI type stuff IMO.
