  • My Take on the draft so far

Kolb - Honestly I have seen a ton of College football, I might have seen Kolb play once and he didn't stand out in my mind. Still he was very productive in college, his fumbling problems worry me (25 of them in college). The fact he played in the Run and Duck worries me. Reid has a good track record though in evaluating QB's and developing QB's so there is hope. My biggest problem with this pick though is this, Why here and why now. McNabb is going to be here to at least 2010, same with Aj Feeley. So Kolb is basically going to be an understudy for 3-4 years. This just does not make sense to me folks, especially if he doesn't play for 3-4 years, then all of a sudden he is a free agent. I still don't understand how we can have the last two years second round picks in Justice and Kolb basically deactived every game next year. Seems to me a team that is so into building through the draft would want to get their draft picks on the field as soon as possible.

Abiamiri - Another shock to me. After signing and resigning 3 defensive ends in the past year and having a having Kearse still under contract, I certianly didn't see a need to draft a DE this year. Abiamiri is a good prospect though and what I like about him is he is a bigger end at 6ft 4 270lbs. They have a very interesting situation here. One of the top 4 ends have to go in order for this guy to play or once again we will have another 2nd round pick being deactived every game this year. Not a good situation. PLUS givin the fact that the Defensive Cooridnator said that he thinks GoCong is probably a DE and the fact that the next pick was Bradley, tells me that GoCong will also be in the mix at DE. How many DE are we going to keep, How many busted picks and free agent signing can we have here.

Bradley - Now this is a pick I really like. I would have still prefered DeOssie but Bradley is a prototypical strong side linebacker. It would not surprise me if he wins the Strong side job outright in camp. I think Spikes is going to be the weak side backer now and Gaither and Trotter are going to share the middle. This pick also signals GoCong is not going to play OLB. Bradley is going to be a steady solid outside backer. He won't be a pro bowler but he will be a solid pick especially at this part of the third round

Hunt - Love this pick. I wanted Leonard as my big back, but when he was off the board Hunt was the man I wanted. We finally have the big North South runner we have desired. This kid is smart, this kid is a good blocker and he can catch the ball out of the backfield. He plays faster than his 40 time but he has never been a burner anyway. Reality also says we don't necessary need that, we have backs with breakaway speed we needed a pounder. Hunt will play alot this year. He will play on special teams and I envision him being used alot like Marion Barber is used in Dallas, short yardage, goal line and in situations where we want to pound on a team.

I am not going to give this draft a grade yet. So far I see two players who will help this year with the possiblity of Abiamiri playing this year if they can clear out some of the log jam in front of him. Kolb is a long long long long long long term project who might never see the field as an Eagle and will continue to baffle me as to why they took him
Were from Philly F in Philly no one likes us we DON'T CARE!

Good post TAZ ,I spent most of the wee hours this morning looking for anything on Kolb. What I found is a guy who can make any throw, can tuck it and run with the best of them and a guy AR graded higher then Quinn. If he is that good,I understand the pick even more. I really am not set on AJ should McNabb have yet another major injury, yes I like him as a short term solution, but not for the long haul. Holcomb is spotty at best and think he's gone sooner than later.I could also see McNabb getting another major injury and calling it a career as well as retiring the day after we win the SB. He has a lot more than football going for him. That's why I like this pick. There is no rush, let him have whatever time he needs to learn this O.
Abiamiri has lots of potential on the field and in the weight room, he has a nice frame that looks like it can hold another 20 lbs. easily.I think Sam Rayburn and McDougle are both gone with this pick. I think we will see Howard at DT in most pass situations .
Bradley's primary knock has been injuries, but looking at the tape he looks like a true warrior. I wouldn't be surprised to see him at the SAM or MIKE. He seems to have the size to replace TRotter. I totally expect to see Dhani go this afternoon.Minnesota has an extra jock strap they are willing to move.
Tony Hunt is a guy I've been watching for the past 4 years and I'm happy to see AR thought so highly of him. Goodbye Moats, you should have learned to block. Tony will do so and he is very good at it . I'm also looking forward to seeing him catch screen passes and pound the ball on goalline.
So far I give the FO a solid B, now get a 4th rounder and grab a S or a CB and let's get mini camp started.
We're looking for people that are fundamentally different,” vice president of player personnel Andy Weidl said Saturday night. “The love and passion for football, it's non-negotiable. They're caring, their character, they do the right thing persistently, and they have a relentless playing style that you can see on tape. The motor, it burns hot. You see them finishing plays. They have a team-first mentality. They're selfless individuals.

Great posts, both. Thanks for the analysis, guys. I tried to read the tea leaves regarding Kolb and what his drafting means for the team's other QB's and couldn't get a handle on it. Your takes make some sense.

Abiamiri, I like. IMO, McDougle is as good as traded. And with Kearse's injury history, he may not be long for the Eagles after this season either. The GoCong angle feeds this contention, in my view.

Bradley and Hunt, I also like. For the reasons stated above by taz.

IMO the Eagles will move some player(s) to recoup a 4th Rd pick.

We do not know much information on what is going on...a lot of different things could happen today or this year impacting both Justice and Kolb...I think trying to make sense of this pick now is impossible because we do not know enough...

The main point is the Eagles and all NFL teams value these positions and so being deep and talented in them seems to be smart IMO...

Another position of high value to the Eagles and all NFL teams...to me this guy replaces J-Mac and he may even shift inside like Howard was doing last season...

Games are won at the LOS and, just like they did on the OL which we all agree is deep and highly talented, the Eagles have put efforts the last few years in upgrading and building depth for the DL...they want pressure on the QB and enough bodies for the rotation so their LB and secondary can do their jobs properly...

Gocong could easily be a tweener DE/LB for certain packages and Howard or Kearse could be gone in 1-2 years anyway...Rayburn may be gone this year...the whole DL is undergoing a transition to a new core group...makes sense to me since many said it has not been good enough...would we rather they do nothing?

I think be definitive about "signals" being sent one day after is too soon...we will see what happens in the minis and TC and then what the final roster is...they are supposedly very high on Gocong and still need depth at LB...I would think people would be happy we got a big LB with possible SAM ability...I do not really know enough about Stewart to comment, but most seem to like him.

I like this pick too although again we have no idea if he will pan out or not yet...

We really have no information to make any judgements yet IMO...
