  • OT: Rock and Roll Screams

OK, the draft is over, camp is a long way off and there's not that much football to talk about right now. So let's go off topic... I was listening to the Who "Won't get Fooled Again" and got into a discussion with my friends about Daltry and how the scream in the beginning of the song has become a signature of sorts for him. That led to a conversation about some of the best rock and roll screams and screamers of all time.

For me Roger Daltry and "Won't get Fooled Again" are the tops. Let's hear some others.

For some reason - Zach De La Rocha's scream at the end of "Freedom" (Rage Against the Machine) immediately popped into my head.

The scream on "Won't Get Fooled Again" is classic.

I also love Bruce Dickinson's scream near the beginning of Iron Maiden's "Number of the Beast."

What about that hot new song for Daughtry?

        just kidding.

It's not much of a scream but the wailing that Kurt Cobain does on My Girl is awesome.

end of LOVER REIGN O'ER ME

and not much of a scream volumn wise but Eddie Vedder's final
AY-YI-YI-YI-YI-YI-YI at the end of JEREMY comes to mind.
          (i'm thinking here...)

In the :Female Rocker" category I don't know if anyone will be able to beat Janis Joplin.

My All-Time favorite screamer will always be the gravel voiced Joe Cocker. All the way from A Little Help From My Friends in 1969 to When The Night Comes" 20 plus years later, the guy could flat out "bring it"!

I don't know how in hell his voice ever held up...but I'm grateful that it did!

Drop the female part and then let's talk.

She might have had the best screams of all time. Hmmmm I might just have to bust out my Janis box set tonight.

I don't know if it's a scream or what but Little Richard's WOOOOOO's are classic.

Hey, the guy isn't right in the head, but that doesn't change the fact that he has made some amazing music.

Why not? Van Halen and other well known rockers played on a lot of his songs. It's Pop, it's still rock. Check out the guitar solos on 'black or white' or billy jean.

If MJ isn't rock wtf is he? Definitely not rap, and not R&B since he was a kid.
