  • Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (WITH SPOILERS)

The end was definitely deflating. I think JK Rowling's lack of writing education finally caught up with her as the ending just kind of happened in the last 20 or 30 pages of a 700+ page book.

For those of you who haven't read but want the spoilers, here's who dies in the last book.

Fred Weasley, Mad-Eye, Remus Lupin, and Tonks from the "good" side all die.

Voldemort is killed by his own killing curse reflected back at him when attempting to curse Harry with Harry's own wand (not the phoenix core one, but a new wand that's supposedly unbeatable).

Snape was a good guy after all, Dumbledore was going to die anyway because of his cursed hand so he told Snape to kill him so that the Elder wand would pass to Snape. Snape is killed by Nagini in yet another anti-climatic scene.

The epilogue was incredibly cheesy and really shows that it was written years ago.

Have to disagree leif. First off - the book was intended for a younger audience so I can stomach the cheesy ending.

I also thought the death of Snape and the truth behind him via the pensieve was pretty cool. There was too much pomp and circumstance between Harry & Voldemort in the final scene between them in front of the student body but again - thought the idea of the deathly hallows and Harry's willingness to forego that all encompassing power for the good of the group was a great focal point to end it on.

I disagree with your disagreement, this was definitely not intended as a children's book. Young adult, maybe but, the series has matured along with the characters and now many more adults read Harry Potter then children.

“NOT MY DAUGHTER, YOU BITCH!”, is not a quote from a children's book.

We're saying the same thing - I said "younger audience" not children so we're on the same page with that. Early teens who have grown up with the series want to know what happens. Check out this interview - Rowlings is being stalked for information - she had to give up something. I think the ending was fine although definitely cheesy.
