Their whole roster-building philosophy is pretty much a middle finger to this idea, IMO. Unfortunately it gets lost when people are shocked they'd do something like draft a QB in the second round with a franchise QB still relatively in his prime.
Your confidence in your team is high, but rest assured, you will suffer humiliation when the sports team from my area defeats the sports team from your area.

It's also just a more interesting story, even if the writer fails to believe what he's writing. If the writer wrote, "The Eagles are going to be good for as long as they want to be good," it's a boring story that no one reads (except us). But if he writes that the sky is falling, he gets the WIP-masses all up in arms and the buzz starts anew...logic be damned.
I disagree with Vic...McNabb has multiple years to win a ring IMO. Will it be here? If healthy and productive, yes.
Now, with Trot and Dawk I can see more of his point, but the Eagles still have options in Gaither and Considine who could step in when those guys leave...will they play at their level? Maybe not, but the team certainly will not fall to pieces like Vic seems to be arguing...
McNabb was exactly right IMO. The window is NOT closing, but they WANT to achieve the goal. They have done everything but win the last game. Time to get it done.
Eliminate distractions, create energy, fear nothing, and attack everything.
"They should feel good that their offensive line has shown impressive continuity and has rounded into an experienced group that should do a decent job of keeping McNabb upright and making holes for Westbrook and Hunt."
Should do a decent job? Seriously? Was I watching a different o-line at the end of the season?
The window is closing for some players in particular -- but that doesn't mean that they can't win SB's. Just ask John Elway. But for the Eagles as a team, I'd say that a new one has opened. Just ask Reggie Brown, Juqua Thomas, Shawn Andrews, etc........
"Philly fans are great....It's the only place where you pull up on the bus and you've got the grandfather, the grandmother, the kids and the grandkids - everybody flicking you off. At other stadiums, they give you the thumbs-down. Here, they give you the middle finger.”
— Michael Strahan
"No one likes us, no one likes us, no one likes us, we don’t care, we’re from Philly, F—-ing Philly, No one likes us, we don’t care!”
- Jason Kelce with the best championship speech ever
At present, I think the whole premise is bogus. The windo is only closing if you don't continue to have a steady influx of talent, not necessarily even YOUNG talent. With the cap responsibility the the Eagles organization has shown, they can go out and get pieces, like Spikes, anytime they need to. There is no window, but I think this guy should be shown the door.
I think someone must have "closed a window" on Vic Carucci's head when he was a child. How else could you account for that misshapen face of his?
It becomes more clear every day that, with the absolute explosion of sports media outlets (print, blog, radio, and TV) combined with the 24 hour news cycle, there is neither enough NEWS nor enough TALENT to even begin to satisfy the artificially created demand.
In a few short years, we went from being "sports information deprived" to "sports STUFF engorged". Since there is not nearly enough hard sports-related information to meet the "needs" of the SPORTS MEDIA MONSTER the gaps have been filled with (at best) well reasoned opinion pieces and informed speculation to (at worst) rumor-mongering, flights of fancy, flagrant distortions, and out-right lies. All to many of today's "sports journalists" operate closer to lower end of the spectrum.
I can probably count on two hands...the extent of my counting skills... the number of "sports journalists" I consider worth reading/listening to/watching. The great majority have nothing of genuine interest to say. And some that do often have an interesting slant on issues, have such difficulty expressing themselves effectively that you get the impression English is their 2nd language. As for the gutter dwellers who routinely trade in baseless rumor and invented controversy, most are inarticulate to the point of embarrassment.
Shame on them, and shame on us when we waste our valuable time watching them figuratively exposing themselves.
I've always been very suspicious of the whole "window is closing" argument, as have many of you. the Eagles have certainly proven over the years that they have the ability to remain a contender over a long period.
However, I do believe it has a certain resonance right now. They've got a core group of veterans -- McNabb, Thomas, Runyan, Trotter, Dawkins -- who have a limited amount of time left. i know it's uncertain how much time is left for mcnabb, but the fact they've drafted his successor means the end is definitely coming.
When Dawkins and Trotter are gone, who do we look to on the defense? Yes, there will be replacements. But how do you replace Dawk?
The tackles will be gone in a year or two. They'll be replaced -- the replacements are lined up already. Trotter will be replaced, maybe this year.
The Eagles know how to plan ahead. They'll still be good. But for this core group, time is running out.
Don't kid yourself Jimmy. If a cow ever got the chance, he'd kill you and everyone you cared about!
"The window is closing, but the Eagles can keep it open."
That pretty much summerizes the stupidity of this article. If the Eagles can keep the window open, then by definition, it's not closing.
Great freakin' post...amen
And a great big hallelujah. There are often signs that a writer is just writing to meet a quota, and if ever there was such a sign "The window is closing, but no it's not" is one!
