From the rookie camp - Really speaks to how hard it is to be a skill position player in the WCO as a rookie and to me...why we can expect great growth from Moats and Brown this year.

    Playing With The Rookies

I'm here working out at the rookie camp. Yes, I know. I'm not a rookie, but I'm at the rookie camp. I don't have to be here, but I want to be here. Why? Obviously, I need some more work.

A lot of people look at this as bad. But I say, give me the reps. I'm going to take all that I can get. In a little bit, I won't be getting all of those reps. I need to work on certain things that I'm not capitalizing on. It's little mistakes that I'm making. There are some of the alignments that I need to pay more attention to. Certain situations, like when I'm running routes like a wideout.

For example, say I'm supposed to run an out route. That's when you run straight and then turn towards the sideline. The perfect situation is when you run the route and the linebacker is on top of you. That's what usually happens and that's the mismatch you look for. You can stick him and go down.

But if the linebacker gets down and outside of you, you naturally want to change the route. I'm not used to seeing that happen and it did at practice today. Should I push into the linebacker? Or should I cut the route short? If I push into him, he'll jam me up. But if I cut the route short, I'll be where the quarterback expects me to be early and he'll throw it behind me which has happened.

What's the correct thing to do?

You run the route. I have to learn to use my hands to get free. It's a matter of learning what to do in each situation. However, there are plays where the route I run is determined by reading the safeties or the corners.

The other mistake is that I look down after I catch the ball when I know I'm about to get hit. I'm going to get hit anyway so I should be focusing on making sure I look the ball in and ball up. That's all you can do. I've been playing football for how many years and it's never changed.

I'm sure you know by now my former high school quarterback, Matt Nordgren, was signed. He did a good job in camp today. He's getting it. They say he's confident, but you have to be. You can't have a quarterback in the huddle whispering or not sure of what he's doing. If you are confident then you're teammates will be confident in you.

Working with the rookie receivers, Jason Avant has stood out to me. He works hard. I've seen him working out all the time catching balls by himself. Everytime I see him, he's always catching the ball. I like people who work hard.

I'm sharing a locker with fullback Jason Davis, one of the rookie free agents. He's coming along. I don't care that I have to share a locker. It's all material to me. I don't understand people who want their own locker to themselves. It's just a locker. I go home and I have my own house

Sounds like a great, humble kid. I'm glad the Eagles picked him and look forward to his continued sucess.

      I like it.

Meanwhile, Barry Bonds needs 3 lockers to fit his easy chair and his enormous head.

Loved what I saw at camp last year.

Great kid and he will add to this team and quite frankly IMHO, it relieves some of the Westy getting hurt fear that I always carry with me.

"I go home and I have my own house."

Classic...great kid, cannot wait to see this backfield operate especially behind this mammoth OL...

Seems like he's got a decent head on his shoulders. I'm really not concerned about our HBs. What we need is for a decent FB to emerge.

Good to hear about Avant's work ethic - that can only help him learn the offense faster.
