  • More runs for Brian Westbrook

Adam Schefter just said on NFL Total Access that the eagles are committed to running more this season and that Westy is up to 210 lbs.

Also, he mentioned Marcell Shipp as a possible cut on June 1. Any interest?

Take it for what it's worth.

Shipp had a real bad injury I think,,, can't remember exact nature but pretty severe. Had a lot of potential, but I gotta think that they are committed to the guys we have right now.

Interesting. Cole, Westy, Considine, Armstrong, Tapeh all bulking up while Kearse, Andrews are slimming down. Its clear the Eagles have plans for each of them and they have been counseled on how to get there. Hmmmm, some of them get stronger and some get faster. I guess we can't blithely judge them on their performances at their old physical standards. The implication is that there are plans on how these guys should perform/be utilized in the coming season. For Westy I'ld expect more runs, up the middle and even better blocking. That I like.

Only concern is that the extra weight might affect his nimbleness. I never liked it when McNabb put on all that muscle. I like the new slim/sleek McNabb in training camp this year.

Understood and agreed. With McNabb having a porous OL in front of him the added strength was very useful. Now with an OL that goes 6'4" to 6'6" and 330+ lbs it makes more sense for Donnie to pose the threat once again that he will tuck it and take off. He doesn't have to do it much but he must establish the threat. Sleek and fit he can be very, very convincing. If they have to revert again to the Spy-on-Donnie approach it helps out our other options. For Westy who is really very well built already, adding 10 lbs just makes him more like Moats and more able to break through tacklers who can find him behind his big blockers. 10 lbs will have much more positive effects on strength than negative effects on speed and agility. He is now closer to Emmit Smith size.

This has been my mantra for the last 3 years or so.

He needs to run early in EVERY game---- it sets the tone and it sets in the other teams D-corordinators mind in that direction and it helps the rest of the O.

He HAS to run.... a couple of times in every game---- early --- and gain some yards........ doesn't have to 30 or 40 just 5 or 10 and the D then has to respect it the entire rest of the game!

Great minds and all that stuff! Our O will run as well as Donnie does!
