Eagles And Patriots Make A Trade Just For The Hell Of It

The Eagles and Patriots have made a draft day trade every single year since 2000, when Belichick took over as coach of the Pats. Andy Reid took over the Eagles the year before. This year, they've made a trade once again although seemingly it was just to keep their streak alive.

The two teams swapped picks 193 and 194 in the 6th round. That's it. The Eagles get 193 by the way.

The move perplexed Jason LaCanfora "So the wheelin and dealin Pats and wheelin and dealin Eagles swap picks 193 for 194. Neither Lombardi and I can figure out exactly why ..."

Maybe Andy and Bill were just bored or something? So odd.

It was from a deal they made in '04. Andy lets Bill win the SB and Bill swaps 6th rounders in 2011.

Bill assured Andy there would be another franchise hof QB there for the Pats in the 6th because he has an eye for these kinds of things.

Peter King on the Eagles-Patriots draft day trade...

Postscript to the Eagles-Patriots trade: Andy Reid and Bill Belichick had that weird trade on draft day, New England trading the 193rd overall choice to Philly for pick number 194. They did it, Reid said, to keep a long streak alive of consecutive years of trades between the two teams. Well, it's a good story, and it seemed the two teams were always trading ... but it's not true.

Since 2000 -- according to the Patriots -- the two teams have made two draft-day trades: the one this year, and one in 2009, when the Patriots shipped Ellis Hobbs to Philadelphia for two fifth-round picks. There have been two other trades involving picks: The Pats shipped a fifth-rounder to the Eagles for Greg Lewis and a seventh-rounder in 2009; and the Patriots sent a sixth-rounder to Philly for Tracy White and a seventh-rounder in 2010. That's it.
