Adam Gase’s stint as Jets’ interim GM is over | What moves did he make while in charge?

Adam Gase said he didn’t want control of the Jets’ roster – but he got that power for 24 days.

That’s how long it took the Jets to hire Joe Douglas as their new GM after firing Mike Maccagnan on May 15. Gase was handed interim general manager duties by acting owner Christopher Johnson during that period.

This isn’t exactly the most active time of year for NFL general managers, but Gase still took advantage of his power while he had it, making eight moves – some of them pretty impactful.

Jets GM search: Could Texans’ Brian Gaine become a candidate? Why his firing should speed up hiring process

The Texans made a stunning decision to fire general manager Brian Gaine on Friday, which could affect the Jets' GM search in a few ways.

Here’s a look back at all of Gase’s moves as interim GM over the past few weeks:

Signed RB Bilal Powell

The Jets agreed to terms with Powell on Friday, after hosting him for a workout. Powell sustained a season-ending neck injury last fall, but was recently cleared, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Claimed LB James Burgess off waivers

The Jets scooped Burgess up on May 28. He played under Gregg Williams with the Browns and had crossed paths with Gase as a practice squad player with the Dolphins, too. The team placed running back Jalin Moore on injured reserve in a corresponding move.

Waiving WR Xavier Ubosi

The Jets announced May 21 that they cut Ubosi in a corresponding move, making room for Deonte Thompson. He was with the team for about a week. The Jets originally picked him up when he was dropped by the Patriots.

Signing WR Deonte Thompson

Thompson split last season between the Cowboys and the Bills after getting cut midseason. The 30-year-old caught 17 total passes for 161 yards last season. He has 94 career catches since joining the league as an undrafted free agent in 2012.

Firing scout Bill Dekraker

Gase let go of Dekraker on May 21 and has privately told people that he wants to “streamline” the Jets’ scouting department, according to the New York Daily New.s

Waiving TE Jordan Leggett

This was a corresponding move to the Matt Darr signing and came later May 20. Leggett was a fifth-round pick in 2017, but missed his rookie season due to injury and provided very little last season, catching just 14 passes. He finished his tenure with the Jets with just one touchdown.

Signing free-agent P Matt Darr

Gase made this seemingly minor signing on May 20, adding competition for Lachlan Edwards. Darr played just five games for the Bills last season after spending 2017 without a team. But, he punted for Gase with the Dolphins in 2016, so there’s some familiarity there.

Trading LB Darron Lee to Chiefs

Gase wasted absolutely no time getting this move done, as he traded Lee just hours after Mike Maccagnan was fired and he became the interim GM. He dealt Lee – who became expendable after the Jets signed C.J. Mosley – to the Chiefs for a sixth-round draft pick in 2020.

I find it so very interesting that Gase screwed around with the scouting department that Douglas was supposed to put together LOL. What a friekin mess. Maybe it's just me but I don't see Gase around for very long.
"Hey Giants, who's your Daddy?"
