While the Eagles’ linebacker position has been much maligned this offseason, the unit might have a diamond in the rough who could curb that criticism in short order during the upcoming campaign.

Second-year linebacker T.J. Edwards was recently named the Eagles’ most under-appreciated player by NFL.com’s Cynthia Frelund. The former undrafted free agent stood out on special teams and tackled well on defense when called upon as a rookie last year.

Here’s what Frelund said about Edwards heading into his second season:

“This undrafted free-agent rookie signing last season paid huge returns for the Eagles’ defense in the form of the highest tackle rate among linebackers with a minimum of 100 snaps in the NFL (20 percent, or 22 tackles on 110 defensive snaps) and the second-best run defense grade among linebackers in the NFL per PFF’s grading system (90.3). A fun note here: His salary ranks 297 among 350 linebackers, per Over The Cap -- but that will not be the case in his next contract, should he continue this level of production.”

been saying we had good ones. I like the potential of Gerry and Singleton as well. Then we added 2 more youngin's.
We're looking for people that are fundamentally different,” vice president of player personnel Andy Weidl said Saturday night. “The love and passion for football, it's non-negotiable. They're caring, their character, they do the right thing persistently, and they have a relentless playing style that you can see on tape. The motor, it burns hot. You see them finishing plays. They have a team-first mentality. They're selfless individuals.
