Default Phils Draft Kyle Drabek

Looks like a nice pick from all the Google articles I can read. He is supposedly an incredible offensive player but projects as a SP in the Majors.

Also was a nice football player: http://www.5atexasfootball.com/05rank14.htm

As for the compensation pick from the METS for Billy Wagner - we drafted Adrian Cardenas, a 6-foot, 185-pound shortstop from Monsignor Edward Pace H.S., in Miami Lakes, Fla.

A left-handed hitter, Cardenas played shortstop in high school but will be moved to second base. This spring, Cardenas hit .630 in 108 at-bats. He had 16 doubles, 17 homers, 56 RBI and 14 stolen bases.

My prediction is you never in your life see Cardenas in a Phillies uniform at the Major League Level. I don't know why Major League teams waste high picks on frail High School middle infielders. Baffling. So hard to project. The first 5 rounds should be PITCHING, PITCHING AND MORE PITCHING.

I think the market is pretty much set now for the Phils to sign Drabek. The Rangers selected a HS pitcher with the 12th pick and he signed for a $1.6MM bonus and a college pitcher, Matt Antonelli who went the pick before Drabek signed for $1.575MM. That should clarify what Drabek should get and the Phils should try to sign him quickly.

Funny that I make that comment yesterday and this comes out in the Inquirer today (the more PC version but exactly what I said):

Drabek is taking time to just chill

Phillies Notes

Kyle Drabek's immediate plans are simple: Relax and spend time with friends.

I predict Brodrick Bunkley signs before Drabek.
