  • Did bad reception cost Sanders the all-time rushing record

According to Barry Sanders, yes it did.

When I saw this on sportscenter my jaw just dropped.

Barry apparently was talking to the coach before the last game of his last season and told him he was "tired" and couldn't play the final game. The coach thought he said retire because of bad cell phone reception. And because Barry Sanders doesn't like to talk about himself, when the story broke of his retirement he just rolled with it.

If this is true, it is really disapointing, because Barry Sanders was one of the most exciting players to watch and he could have easily broken the all-time rushing record and put it out of reach of Emmit Smith if he had stayed for a few more years.

Barry Sanders has since changed his cell phone carrier.

Are you sure you weren't watching a Sprint commercial?

That's what my grandpa thought, but know it was sports center.

Not sure, but I think that piece wasn't meant to be taken seriously...

I saw that a bunch of times on ESPN. That guy Kenny Mayne made it up. He does all those weird but funny bits on the Sunnday Morning Countdown on ESPN. It was a joke.
