Abiamiri To PUP; 10 Players Released

The Eagles have designated defensive end Victor Abiamiri to the Reserve/Physically Unable to Perform list which means that he will miss at least the first six weeks of the regular season.
Abiamiri does not count against the 53-man roster. After those initial six weeks, there is a three week window where the Eagles would have to decide whether to place him on the active roster or end his season and put him on Injured Reserve. During that three-week window, Abiamiri would be allowed to practice with the team.
A former second-round pick, Abiamiri underwent microfracture surgery on his knee during the offseason and did not take part in any of the offseason practices.
The Eagles also released the following 10 players: cornerback Geoff Pope, defensive end Pannell Egboh, defensive tackle Boo Robinson, cornerback David Pender, wide receiver Dobson Collins, tight end Nate Lawrie, offensive tackle Jeraill McCuller, running back J.J. Arrington, safety Anthony Scirrotto and running back Martell Mallett.
Arrington's release is significant because it means that the Eagles receive a sixth-round draft pick in 2012 as part of the agreement with the Broncos when the team traded for the running back.
For the players eligible for the practice squad, they first have to be on waivers for 24 hours where another team could claim them. If those players are not claimed, they can be signed to the Eagles' eight-man practice squad. Of these players released, Pope, Lawrie and Arrington are not eligible.
The Eagles roster stands at 65 and must get to 53 by Saturday at 6 PM EST. We will interview general manager Howie Roseman after the final cuts are made

I guess that means that Reno Mahe, I mean Chad Hall, is still on the roster.

12 more to go. And we just got that guard from Arizona. So 13 more cuts?

If you were interested in signing any of these guys to your practice squad, wouldn't you want to wait til that lastest possible date to release them? Or am I looking at this wrong?

Kinda figured Mallet and Robinson would be guys they'd consider for it.

This is going to be a strange year for cuts Fresh, especially drafted rookies. The clubs have to pay 85% of any rookie's salary that they draft and cut into a special "rookie pool". So if you basically have to pay a guy if you cut him, you may as well keep him. This probably means Macho and Fokou are gone along with any other 2nd year guys on the Birds (or in the league for that matter).

Any truth to the rumor that Victor is considering a name change to Jerome MacDougle.
We're looking for people that are fundamentally different,” vice president of player personnel Andy Weidl said Saturday night. “The love and passion for football, it's non-negotiable. They're caring, their character, they do the right thing persistently, and they have a relentless playing style that you can see on tape. The motor, it burns hot. You see them finishing plays. They have a team-first mentality. They're selfless individuals.

No. Victor Abiamiri is actually Jerome McDougle's new name! He changed it after he was released.
