  • Taylor Hart Moving From DT To OL

NEWS, NOTES AND A LITTLE OF THIS AND THAT
A fifth-round draft pick in 2014 from Oregon, Taylor Hart has not distinguished himself much at all in three NFL seasons as a defensive tackle, playing in a total of 15 games, 14 of them in 2015, with the Eagles and San Francisco. When Hart comes back to the NovaCare Complex in the spring, he will try to make a name for himself as - an offensive tackle. The Eagles gave Hart some work late in the season on the scout team at offensive tackle and liked what they saw, enough that they're going to see what he's got in 2017 on that side of the football. Hart has length at 6-6, he's a very good athlete and he's got long arms. He was a first-team all-state offensive tackle in high school. Add Hart to the "project" department that includes Dillon Gordon, a converted tight end from LSU, working with line coach Jeff Stoutland.

You never know how it's going to work out, but the signing of offensive lineman Josh LeRibeus could pay off for the Eagles. LeRibeus fits into that Stefen Wisniewski category - a veteran who can play multiple positions - for the future. He's a former third-round draft pick of the Redskins who plays guard and center and he's got some size at 310 pounds.*

Offensive line. Tackle to be more specific. Sorry about that!

He's a good athlete and was an all state tackle in HS. Why not try it? They probably should have left him there in college.

Don't forget that a no-name player who goes by Alejandro Villanueva bounced around as a project, made a stop here as a failed DE, and just a couple years later is now one of the best OT in the NFL. Go figure.

(Surprised this story doesn't get talked about more here, since we like to talk about bad decisions. Letting Villaneuva go to become a great OT for Pittsburgh at this point was far more egregious than the Rowe trade.)

So, if they don't think Taylor was going to make it as a DT, why not? If it doesn't work, you just cut him.

It's a decent shot and I agree with it. Pulling Vila against NE was a disaster Sunday though. Every time they tried it he was too slow into the hole and Williams got stuck in the backfield . Maybe it works better with Bell's style of walking to the LOS? I guess that Vill is a straight ahead blocker. I also might think that he just landed in the right situation for him with line chemistry. This was the argument against FA in it's infancy. Just because one guy is good with one team doesn't necessarily transmit to another. Maxwell coming through Seattle was A good example of that. We've hit and missed on them over the years and they were always good players where we got them from. NE turns crap into gold on a constant basis. The NE front office works like clockwork and I imagine Belecheck makes the decisions. How he gets his info for every player in the league is beyond me.

Agree ypcm He would probably look pretty good on our OL now.. but that happens. Sometimes guys realize a situation is their last chanc so they get down to business and work harder. Sometimes it is the scheme or technique or coach or whatever. I really liked Rowe and still expect him to have a career in the NFL. There are plenty of other ex birds still floating around the NFL
Wait until next year is a terrible philosophy
                Hope is not a strategy
