Eagles salary cap update after cutting Mychal Kendricks

By: Lee Sifford | May 27, 2018 10:22 am ET

The last time we looked into the Philadephia Eagles’ salary cap situation, we had to make a few assumptions. Since then, however, our questions have all been answered. The release of linebacker Mychal Kendricks is the latest change to the situation.

The first assumption was that Markus Wheaton would not make enough money to count towards the top-51 cap requirement. Wheaton will have a 2018 cap number of $720,000.

Second, we assumed that the entire contract given to Darren Sproles will count toward the 2018 salary cap. This assumption was correct, as Sproles will make $1,433,750 in 2018.

With all of the unknowns taken out of the equation, let’s now revisit where Philadelphia stands in regard to the salary cap, via Over the Cap.

According to Over the Cap, the Eagles have $190,880,050 in total cap liabilities, with the 51 highest-paid players costing $164,327,861. In addition, the Eagles owe $9,563,275 in dead money and $343,000 to injured players.

After parting ways with Kendricks, the team is $5,696,573 under the salary cap. As a reminder, once the season gets closer, the team will have to cut 37 players, to get down to the final 53-man roster. Any extra cap space at the conclusion of the 2018 NFL season will roll over to the 2019 cap total.
