A witness to the aftermath of the accident told WTAE at 12:11 p.m. that Roethlisberger was alert and talking to paramedics, .....
..His eyes were open but he was very confused. He said that he was "okay" and tried to get up.

    against........

"Roethlisberger lost most of his teeth, fractured his left sinus cavity bone, suffered a nine-inch laceration to the back of his head and a broken jaw, and severely injured both of his knees when he hit the ground, police said."

He's made of much stronger stuff than thee or me.
Stupider stuff perhaps, but definitely stronger.

No, there used to be a helmet law or there was about to be and then it got turned down or overruled. Also Rothlesberger (sp) does have a clause in his contract that he is not allowed to ride a motorcycle in season, but out of season he is allowed to. That really doesnt make much sense since a serious injury is a problem no matter when it happens.

I agree, either don't allow it or allow, but differentiating between "in" season and "out" is just stoopid!

Didn't Bill Cowher implore Ben last year at this time to wear a helmet when riding his bike?
Yes, and Ben's response was that he was "not a risk taker" when driving his bike and that he is always careful. (Apparently no one clued him in to the fact that OTHER people are not as careful and maybe others ARE risk takers - and that's half the problem!) He also added that he always rides with many other bikers which he claimed made him even safer because he'd be surrounded by other bikes. Moron.

Have you seen a picture of his bike? I would think that anyone who buys a bike like that is more than a little bit of a risk taker. You buy one of those, you wear a full face helmet whenever you ride (if you have half a brain). Beautiful piece of machinery by the way.

About 3 ½ hours before the collision, many Philadelphia-area fans heard Roethlisberger do a 10-minute telephone interview with the WIP Morning Show. Co-host Rhea Hughes said the QB "was a terrific interview," but the subject of motorcycles didn't come up.
Well, of course not. It was the morning show. I'm sure they just blew him and sent him on his way.

                    Just an update............

Roethlisberger to be cited for not having motorcycle license

PITTSBURGH - Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger will be cited for not wearing a helmet and not having a motorcycle license after an accident last week left him with a concussion, broken jaw and nose.

Roethlisberger and the driver of the car he crashed into on June 12 both had the green light, but the driver of the vehicle will be cited for failing to yield, police said Monday.

Only licensed cyclists can ride without a helmet in Pennsylvania.

Roethlisberger was traveling 35 mph in a posted 35 mph zone, said officer Dan Connolly. There were no mechanical problems with Roethlisberger's Suzuki Hayabusa or the Chrysler New Yorker, he said.

Police Chief Dominic Costa said the woman driving the car received some threatening phone calls, which police were investigating.

Roethlisberger had seven hours of surgery to repair his broken jaws and other facial bones. Doctors have said tests showed no brain injuries, although there was a mild concussion. He also lost two teeth and chipped several others.

He was discharged Wednesday night from Mercy Hospital and apologized to the team, his fans and family in a statement released Thursday. He also said that he would wear a helmet if he rode a motorcycle again.
