  • Terrelle Pryor

    Per RotoWorld...

Agent Drew Rosenhaus said his client - former Ohio State QB Terrelle Pryor - will play any position he's asked.

This may be some pre-supplemental draft posturing, but considering Pryor's best bet at sticking in the league could be as a jack-of-all-trades, he's likely genuine. At 6-foot-5, 232 with a 4.38 forty, Pryor is one of the rarest specimens to enter the league. He could easily wind up as a successful tight end if he busts as a quarterback.
Former Ohio State QB Terrelle Pryor ran forty-yard dash times of 4.38 and 4.41 at his Saturday Pro Day, but completed just 27-of-39 passes in the throwing portion of the workout.

17 teams sent representatives. After weighing in at 6-foot-5, 232, Pryor ran on FieldTurf, which is considered a legit surface for forty times. Clearly, he's got elite long speed, even for a wide receiver. The supplemental draft prospect hurt himself in the passing workout, however. Pryor is regarded to have off-the-charts athleticism (evidenced by his forty), but struggles to throw the ball on a straight line. The Pro Day confirmed all preconceived beliefs.
Interestingly, I heard from Jimmy Kempski that every NFC East team had a representative there except the Giants. So the Eagles have SOME interest which is a bit of a surprise on one hand. On the other, they've never been bashful about making bold moves lately, so perhaps if they think they can get him for a 5th or 6th round pick, they'd keep him around as a project.

All NFC East Teams attend Terrelle Pryor’s workout – Except the Giants

Albert Breer from the NFL Network is reporting that 14 NFL teams have sent scouts to attend Terrelle Pryor’s pro day in Pittsburgh. Citing a source he apparently has at the workout, Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.com writes that there are 17 teams in attendance.
Regardless of how many teams or team representatives are actually there, both reports agree that the Cowboys, Eagles and Redskins are in attendance – while the Giants are conspicuous by their absence.

Of course, the Giants already have an elite quarterback on par with Peyton Manning and Tom Brady, so at first glance it shouldn’t come as a big surprise that they’re apparently not interested in what is a late round prospect at best.

But all kidding aside, it does surprise that the Giants don’t appear to at least be doing their due diligence. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think any of the other NFC East teams would be willing to invest even a seventh rounder on Pryor at this stage, but they’re checking him out anyway, on the off chance that they might see something that could pique their interest.

Like the 230-pound QB running the 40-yard dash in 4.41 seconds. Or perhaps hitting a target or two with the football …

What? The Giants have an elite quarterback on par with Peyton Manning and Tom Brady? Really? Who is it?

That was sarcastic on the writer's part. I didn't post any of the stuff about the interview Manning last week since it was so dumb, and somewhat taken out of context in my opinion, but Manning sort of compared himself to Tom Brady.

Eagles At Terrelle Pryor's Workout; Birds Unlikely To Draft QB
            Aug 21
            by Cody Benjamin

The Eagles were among 17 NFL teams at infamous quarterback Terrelle Pryor’s unofficial Pro Day workout this week, though the Birds appear unlikely to draft the former Ohio State signal-caller. Whispers are that Miami could be the developmental project’s most likely suitor, while some league sources have indicated it “would be a surprise” if the Eagles pursued Pryor in the upcoming supplemental draft.

While the Eagles are set at quarterback with Michael Vick as the starter and Vince Young and Mike Kafka backing him up, Pryor has been praised for his amount of athleticism and upside as an offensive weapon. With head coach Andy Reid having such a good track record for developing young passers, Pryor’s name has been floated in speculation with the Eagles, and the acquisition of an athlete like Pryor would give the team yet another explosive play-maker on a potent offensive unit. However, all signs seem to point to Philadelphia steering clear of the QB.

Besides the troubling background he’s coming from after a controversial departure from Ohio State that involved the resignation of longtime college coach Jim Tressel, Pryor isn’t seen as much of a fundamentally sound prospect, and the Eagles have historically stayed away from spending future draft picks on long-term projects in the supplemental selection process. In all likelihood, Philadelphia sent scouts to Pryor’s workout to evaluate him just as they would with any other incoming prospect.

              8/21/11 Update...

The Raiders reportedly have supplemental draft prospect Terrelle Pryor graded high "in just about every category except as quarterback."

They view Pryor as possessing "outstanding athletic talent," which is hardly a surprise after he clocked a 4.38 forty at 6'5" and 232 pounds. Owner Al Davis may draft Pryor with the intention of developing him as a Jermichael Finley-type mismatch at tight end. Pryor was reportedly in Pittsburgh Sunday visiting the Steelers.

                8/22/11 Update...

SI's Peter King considers the Bengals the favorites to land former Ohio State QB Terrelle Pryor in Monday's supplemental draft.

King is a former Bengals' beat writer, so his opinion holds some water. The move could be popular among Cincy's Ohio State fan base and give them a chance to move on from Jordan Palmer as the No. 3 quarterback. Pryor did spend two hours with coach Mike Tomlin and the Steelers Sunday, but beat writer Ed Bouchette doesn't believe Pittsburgh will bid more than a seventh-round pick. The draft will happen at 1 p.m. ET today. The Raiders, Dolphins, Bills and Seahawks have also been mentioned as possible landing spots.

Cowboys have first dibs in the NFL Supplemental draft
Aug 22nd, 2011 by Jimmy Kempski.

First, an explanation of the weighted lottery system from Pro Football Talk:
The supplemental draft works like a convoluted combination of a draft and the waiver system.

Priority for the supplemental draft will be determined by a weighted lottery. The weakest club (this year, the Panthers) receives the most chances, with 32. The strongest team (the Packers) gets the fewest, with one.

The order of priority for the six weakest teams is determined first via picking chances from a container, which means that the Panthers will be no lower than sixth. Then, the lottery chances for the remaining 14 non-playoffs teams will be placed in the container and the No. 7 through No. 20 spots will be determined.

Finally, the lottery chances for the 12 postseason teams will be placed in the container to determine the final dozen slots on the priority chart.

The draft then unfolds with each team determining on a round-by-round basis whether to use, before the round begins, the corresponding pick from the 2012 draft. If multiple teams pick the same player in the same round, the priority list determines which team gets the player.
And then, just in via Rob Rang, the Cowboys have apparently won the lottery among the “worst teams”:
The Dallas #Cowboys have the first pick of the 2011 supplemental draft. The Pittsburgh #Steelers have the last pick. The draft has begun.
Obviously, we’ll have more if any of the NFC East teams add a player.

Al Davis just could not contain himself, could he. At least he's not going to be looked at as a QB, I guess.

The raiders had success with this kind of pick in the past. I believe Cliff Branch was a QB at one point and I know Ron Curry was.
You know Darren if you'd have told me 10 years ago that someday I was going to solve the world's energy problems I'd have said your crazy.... now lets drop this big ball of oil out the window.

Not only was this a reach, but the Raiders are now without a 2nd, 3rd AND 4th round pick in the 2012 draft. Wow.
