Asante Samuel Does Not Believe NFL Will Miss Games

Asante Samuel says that he has yet to feel the impact of the lockout, and believes the labor dispute will be a thing of the past by the time the season rolls around.

“I think it will work itself out,” Samuel told Philly Sports Daily. “By the time Game 1 comes everything will be worked out. There is too much money to lose, and too many people that depend on this game.”

Samuel is in Florida as is his custom in the offseason. He is working with a personal trainer and going to a local L.A. Fitness regularly to stay in shape. He admitted, though, that he is dealing with “nagging injuries” that have ratcheted back his training to a certain extent. He declined to provide details into what those injuries were.

Samuel suffered what Andy Reid labeled an MCL sprain on Nov. 21 against the Giants and missed the next three games. He never seemed to fully regain his form upon his return to the lineup.

The lockout prevents players from getting treatment at the NovaCare Complex, though it is unlikely that Samuel – given his penchant for staying in Florida this time of year – would have come up to Philadelphia for such purposes even if there wasn’t a work stoppage.

A hot topic around the team this offseason has been how to fill the right cornerback position opposite Samuel. High on fans’ wish lists is free agent NnamdiAsomugha. Samuel said that he and Asomugha do know each other.

“We’ve talked before a couple times,” said Samuel. “He’s a cool guy.”
But, unlike teammate DeSean Jackson, who has already made a pitch to the standout corner, Samuel is not taking the proactive approach.

“Who we sign is whoever it is,” he said, adding that it is management’s call.

We’ll have more on the activities of the Eagles standout cornerback coming soon, including why he will be donning a hardhat and tool belt this Saturday.
