  • 49ers #1 Pick in 2008 Draft

I didn't see this dicussed. We do all realize that the 49ers moved up to the #28 position and gave up their #1 next year and #4 this year to NE.

That said. Would you have traded our pick at #26 for the #1 next year and a #4 this year instead of the other deail we got?

So the trade looked like this:

    OPTION A
1st round, No. 26: Anthony Spencer, LB, Purdue

    for

2nd round, No. 36: Kevin Kolb, QB, Houston
3rd round, No. 87: Stewart Bradley, LB, Nebraska
5th round, No. 159: C.J. Gaddis, DB, Clemson

    OPTION B

1st round, No. 26: Joe Staley, OT, Central Michigan

    4th round No. 110:
    Baraka Atkins, DE, Miami (Hypothetical)
Fred Bennett, CB, South Carolina (Hypothetical)
    Zak DeOssie, OLB, Brown(Hypothetical)
    C.J. Gaddis, DB, Clemson (Hypothetical)

2008 1st-round pick (Probably top 15 Pick from SF)

    -----------------------

This would give us two #1's next year. Personally - I think you go with option B. Two first rounders would have been real exciting next year and really could live without Stewart Bradley and Kevin Kolb.

Yes, I absolutely would have made that deal. I was pissed when the Pats made it two picks later.

I voted A. I like the Kolb pick and Bradley was one of the highest rated SLB. I don't understand why people are so down on those picks.

That said I doubt San Fran even offered it to the Iggs.

I am not down on Kolb and Bradley to be clear. I like both of them and am kind of excited to see what they bring.

I just think having a top 15 pick is potential for a major league ALL PRO talent (Unless his name is Jerome McDougle).

Like BillyBird said, the SF pick probably won't be top 15.

FWIW, I wouldn't have minded a ditka like trade to move up and take LaRon Landry. I also wouldn't have minded using are 2nd or 3rd round picks to move up for one of Mayweather, Nelson, Beason, or Griffin.
