The most unpopular Eagles of all time

So now that we’re into that low-content portion of the offseason, we tend to fill the time with projections and lists and predictions.

I love researching and making lists, especially lists that are slightly outside of the box. I have a few ideas, and thought this would be a good time to roll them out, as they wouldn’t get in the way of real content. My first list bucks the trend of ‘best players’, ‘best contracts’, etc., and instead covers the most unpopular players/coaches/executives over the last 50 years. Keep in mind that these are not necessarily lousy players (though some are), but instead are players that were not very popular with coaches, teammates, and most importantly you…the fans
    So without further ado...

The most unpopular Philadelphia Eagles of all time - 1968-present
    OWNER - Norman Braman
The notoriously greedy Miami billionaire owned the team from 1985-1994, and could not have been less interested in the team’s success. He handled the team like an icky bug, and very rarely even stepped foot in Philadelphia (Buddy Ryan referred to him as ‘The guy in France’). He once charged the players for new athletic shoes that were gifted to the team as part of a promotion by Addidas. But more than anything, he will forever be known as the guy who had no problem letting Reggie White leave in free agency, saying "Reggie may be devout, but his first love is the almighty dollar."

    GM- Chip Kelly
Chip likes to do everything fast, including destroying rosters. Thank God we were able to bring Howie back

    COACHES

    HC –Joe Kuharich
When the fans chip in to fly a plane over the stadium pulling a "Joe Must Go!" banner, you know things are bad.

    Offensive Coach- Dick Wood
Other than sporting an awesomely hilarious name, Wood brought the most boring, ineffective offense to the team in his one year as offensive coordinator (1983).

    Defensive Coach- Jim Washburn
Washburn was often referred to as a ‘disruptive cancer’ among the team. The only person who liked him was Jason Babin. That tells you all you need to know.

    OFFENSE

    QB- Vince Young
The guy who cursed us with the ‘Dream Team’ monicker. Oh, and he sucked at football too.

    RB- Ricky Waters
Waters was a great RB for the Eagles, but he will forever be tainted by "For who? For what?"

    RB- Demarco Murray
A big contract and a bigger lack of effort marked Murray’s 1-year tenure with the team. Took a dive against Miami, and complained to Jeff Lurie behind his coach’s back

    OT-Kevin Allen
A high (#9) draft pick, Allen was fat and lazy. Buddy Ryan once said Allen "could only be useful if you want someone to stand around and kill the grass... he looks like a USFL reject." He was cut in just his second season, and within a week was arrested on rape charges. He became one of the few players to be permanently banned from the NFL.

    OT-Bernard Williams
Taken with the 14th pick in the 1994 draft, Williams has a career ratio of games played to drug tests failed of 1.06 to 1. That's right. He played all 16 games in 1994 (and played well) and was banned from the NFL for life for failing 15 drug tests. At a time when the Eagles really needed to start restocking their roster, Williams found it more important to get high.

    OG: Ron Solt
Fans were excited when we acquired the Pro Bowl guard from the Colts for a 1st and a 4th round pick. Then, at the start of the 1990 season, he was suspended for 4 games for steroid use and we quickly learned how he got himself into the Pro Bowl.

    OG- Danny Watkins
Uggh…what else is there to say? A first round pick that would have rather been a fireman. Currently the longest running punchline on BGN.

    OG- Chance Warmack
None of us ever understood why the team kept him, wasting a roster spot and for a stretch rotating him with a clearly better Wiz. Plus, his bow ties were stupid.

    C- David Molk
An all-around sour guy who hated football. He even wrote a really negative book about playing in the NFL.

    TE: LJ Smith
Perhaps the most frustrating player on this list, Smith came in with a great deal of talent that he never lived up to. A seemingly constant string of injuries, and a bad habit of dropping passes only added to the frustration.

    WR- Terrell Owens
Signed by the team before 2004, Owens helped take the Eagles all the way to the Super Bowl. They had a great thing going until the very next year when his narcissism and big stupid ego got him cut after 7 games. The ultimate 'me-first' player.

    WR- Freddie Mitchell
If only FredEx had been half as good as he thought he was. He didn’t deserve to be the guy who went down in history for catching the’ 4th and 26’ pass.

    WR- Todd Pinkston
Old ‘Alligator Arms’ himself. This s**t don’t fly in Philly…

    WR- Riley Cooper
Take your pick…the stupid long hair, the racist remarks caught on video, this dropped pass in the playoff game against the Saints (go to 2:56)…’Sunshine’ was just an unlikable dude.

    WR- Miles Austin
Though he only played 11 games with the Eagles, his ineptitude at a time that the team REALLY needed a decent receiver made him a whipping boy of the fans. His previous Cowboys lineage, along with that horrible ‘mouth face’ meme didn’t help him either.

    DEFENSE

    DL- Jason Babin
Arguably one of the biggest d's to ever play the sport. Even mild-mannered Andy Reid once said about Babin: "I hate him." Babin had no concern about the team or anything else other than padding his sack stats so that he could get a bigger contract, as he was more than willing to confirm and expand on here.

    DL- Marcus Smith II
The love child of the Chip Kelly/Howie Roseman pissing contest, Smith was taken with the 26th pick in the first round, after all of the other Eagles targets had been taken. Everyone knew it was a terrible pick, especially the fans. By 2017 he was clearly a bust, and his career was dangling by a thread.. So what did he do? He decided to not attend OTAs! Two months later he was gone, and the fans rejoiced.

    DL - Mike Mamula
Perhaps unfairly (he had a decent 5-year career), Mamula was far from a fan favorite after the Eagles traded up to draft him #7 overall, based on his inflated combine numbers. Mamula, it turns out was one of the first combine workout warriors, and never lived up to said combine performance. To add salt to the wound, he also was charged with exposing himself to a female bouncer in 2007. Injuries ended his career in 2000.

    DL- Leonard Renfro/Jon Harris
Two more first-round busts that marked the poor level of drafting by the Eagles in the mid-90’s

    LB- Bill Romanowski
Nobody like Romanowski, opposing players, teammates, coaches, fans…he was a known steroid abuser and was the king of ‘roid rage. Fortunately, he only played for the Eagles for 2 years.

    LB- Casey Matthews
The fans were hoping for another stud fron the Matthews’ family tree, but instead got a dud. Unlike his father and brother, Casey was too soft and too weak to play in the NFL which was too hard to watch for hard-nosed Eagles fans.

    LB- Tim Harris
The Eagles tried to soften the blow of losing Reggie White to the Packers after the 1992 season by signing Tim Harris, who had 17 sacks the year before for the 49ers. But Harris was a disaster. He played in just three games as an Eagle, netting zero sacks and just six tackles, stealing roughly $2 million in salary from the team.

    S- Macho Harris
Drafted as the replacement for Brian Dawkins, Harris never had a chance. He was gone after one year

    S: Nate Allen
Drafted as the replacement for the guy that was drafted to be the replacement for Brian Dawkins, Allen also never had a chance. Not to mention he was drafted with the 2nd round pick we got for Donovan McNabb…Allen was a decent player, but the fans never took to him.

    S: Patrick Chung
A suspected double-agent (by the fans), Chung was signed for the 2013 season as a FA from New England, where he played well. During his one season with the Eagles he played 12 games and was terrible. He then went back to New England the next year and has played well ever since.

    CB- Izel Jenkins
Nicknamed ‘Toast’ by the media and fan base for how often he was burned on big pass plays.

    CB- Cary Williams
    One word: Sconces.

    CB- Nnamdi Asomugha
The Eagles signed Asommugha as a free agent after years as a Pro Bowl cornerback in Oakland. But he couldn’t cover, and he couldn’t (wouldn’t) tackle, and was more interested in making movies than playing football. He became the face of the ‘Dream Team’ failure.

    SPECIAL TEAMS

    K- Chris Boniol
During his three seasons in Dallas, Boniol was the most accurate kicker in the league. In his two seasons with the Eagles, he was next to last. Against the Cowboys, he made just 7 of his 11 attempts in three games against his former team, prompting fans to call him a double-agent too.

    PR- Reno Mahe
‘Mr. Fair Catch’ drove everyone crazy with his unwillingness to actually return a punt.

Thanks for reading! Please feel free to share your thoughts, or add anyone that you think belongs on this list in the comments section below.

Ugh what a list. If 2017 hadn't happened, this list would hurt twice as much.

This list mentioned everyone I could think off of the top of my head other than the Detmers. Nothing says settling for mediocrity than both of them.

      Norman Braman vs Jeffrey Lurie

A tale of 2 completely different owners. Nobody wanted to play for Braman (good reasons). He made Buddy's job much more difficult.

Rich Miano was another guy that drove me batty in the secondary. Too slow to cover and Emmitt Smith would use him as a tackling dummy all the time.

“That guy in France” is one of my favorite Buddy Ryan disses.

He wouldn’t even say the owners name

Renfro...wasn't he one of the first rounders picked with the Reggie White compensatory picks? THAT one, and Jon Harris really pissed me off when they happened. More so than Nnamdi eating lunch alone in his car ( I actually thought the Eagles were getting the Nnamdi from his Pro Bowl years). Hell, that pissed me off too. LOL

How about Ray Rhodes? He's the idiot that took Harris when nobody even had them on their draft board. I had a bright kid that I coached in high school who was hired by a pro athlete agency right out of college and guess who his first client was? Yup, you guessed it-Harris! "J.H. was the laziest client I ever had. He didn't give a shit about anything" was pretty much what he told me when I ran into him in a grocery store years ago. George had moved on to to a big investment bank by then and he remembered that I was a Birds fan and we both ripped Harris to shreds talking about how bad he was. "He got me out of the business. He really was the definition of a guy just collecting a paycheck and I couldn't take the grief that I was getting over it". I guess that his boss got on his ass over the situation and George made a career change LOL.

That's funny, in hindsight. And I admit that I bought Ray Rhodes initially. But after it became clear that he was losing/lost the team, I was ready to see him bounced out on his ass

The name Rich Kotite still makes me angry. So stupid he couldn’t even read his chart through the rain! Thought 8-8 was a great season and brought arrogant to a whole new level right up until he got fired. He inherited a fantastic team from Buddy including one of the best defenses and DC’s in the league and still struggled to beat the Saints in the playoffs when the Saints were still a league joke. He remains one of my all time most hated coaches.

Mark McMillian - burned almost as much as Izel Jenkins. But every time he actually deflected a pass he’d jump around like he’d won the SB all by himself.

Leonard Mitchell - probably Vermeil’s worst draft pick. Couldn’t sack anyone so they moved him to the OL, and he sucked there too

Yeah, I got fooled too TP. After he got fired in Philly he went to GB as HC and lasted all of 1 season before they canned him.

Good call on Simmy Vin. Man did he suck.

                            I have a few comments.

                            a. I know Mark Simoneau personally. I went to KState when he was there. He is the nicest guy you will ever meet and is from a tiny town in Central Kansas. Hate him as an Eagle fine but if you met the guy in real life you'd give him a kidney if he needed it.

                            My list would include:

                            Freddie Mitchell
Shawn Andrews - sooooo much talent
Danny Watkins - what a selfish prick. just be a fire fighter
All Cowboys - DeMarco Murray, Miles Austin, insert other names here
Chip Kelly - HATE HATE HATE this guy
Juan Castillo - for a celebrated offensive line coach he sure seemed like he didn't get a lot out of guys and then had the audacity to ask to be the DC
You know Darren if you'd have told me 10 years ago that someday I was going to solve the world's energy problems I'd have said your crazy.... now lets drop this big ball of oil out the window.

My list has only 2 names for the top 25 spots----

                              1. Terrell (POS) Owens
                              2. Chip (I know better)Kelly

                              Rinse and repeat!!!

After that, I start at #26!
