NFL source: Tyrod Taylor to visit Eagles, Redskins, Jaguars, to work out for Dolphins, Saints

Virginia Tech quarterback Tyrod Taylor is scheduled to visit the Philadelphia Eagles, Washington Redskins and the Jacksonville Jaguars, according to an NFL source with knowledge of the situation.

Taylor is also slated to conduct a private workout for the New Orleans Saints on March 28 and the Miami Dolphins on March 30.

Taylor had breakfast with the San Diego Chargers before his Pro Day workout earlier this week and had an afternoon meeting with the Dolphins.

He's regarded as a third to fifth-round draft target for NFL teams and is being evaluated as a quarterback. Taylor does offer positional versatility, but is expected to play quarterback primarily.

"It's hard to pass on a guy's athleticism like that," a source said. "People are excited about him."

Taylor had an accurate throwing session at the NFL scouting combine, and the 6-foot-1, 217-pounder ran the 40-yard dash in 4.47 seconds and posted a 37 1/2 inch vertical leap, 10-06 broad jump and a 6.78 three-cone drill.

Named the Atlantic Coast Conference Offensive Player of the Year, Taylor owns the Hokies' records for total offense, passing yards, rushing yards and touchdowns for a quarterback , touchdown passes in a season and career wins.

Last season, he passed for 24 touchdowns and five interceptions, completing 172 of 284 passes.

He draws high marks from speed and elusiveness, rushing for 637 yards and five touchdowns last season.

Some draft analysts have knocked him for his throwing motion, but his accuracy has been sound.

Two seasons ago, Taylor completed 136 of 243 throws for 2,311 yards, 13 touchdowns and five interceptons with 370 rushing yards.

Eagles working out Colin Kaepernick today

Nevada standout quarterback Colin Kaepernick is conducting an individual workout today for the Philadelphia Eagles, according to a league source with knowledge of the situation.

It's an interesting link considering that Eagles backup Kevin Kolb is on the trading block and drawing heavy interest around the league.

Kaepernick could potentially fit in as a backup to Michael Vick.

Kaepernick is coming off a strong Pro Day workout where he completed 36 of 38 passes with one dropped, according to a source who attended the session.

Kaepernick stood on his combine numbers. The Jacksonville Jaguars and Carolina Panthers both sent their quarterbacks coaches to the workout, which was attended by 25 NFL teams.

Meanwhile, the Denver Broncos have Kaepernick for an official visit and a private workout.

The Broncos like his athleticism and general upside.

The Broncos are under new management now with coach John Fox and vice president John Elway running the football operations.

Kaepernick scored a 37 on the Wonderlic exam after scoring a 38 last year, one of the highest scores on the test at any position group this year.

Kaepernick has upcoming private workouts with the Tennessee Titans and Miami Dolphins and has a previous workout with the San Francisco 49ers.
Kaepernick met with 14 teams at the NFL scouting combine, and he displayed the best velocity of any quarterback during testing that measures how many miles per hour the football travels.

Kaepernick threw the football 59 miles per hour. Kaepernick is a former Chicago Cubs draft selection and an all-state baseball player who threw 94 miles per hour.

That edged out Arkansas quarterback Ryan Mallett (58 miles per hour) and Auburn quarterback Cam Newton (56 miles per hour).

Kaepernick is the lone quarterback in Division I history to pass for over 10,000 career yards and also rush for 4,000 yards.

Directing a spread-option offense called the Pistol, Kaepernick is the only quarterback to pass for over 2,000 yards and rush for over 1,000 yards in a single season three times.

"I had a chance to see him last summer at Peyton Manning's Passing Academy," NFL Network draft analyst Mike Mayock said during a conference call. "I spent three days watching the kid throw the ball with Peyton and Eli. He's got a huge arm. He's a great athlete, and he's got a big frame. The kind of guy you want to buy into. He's the kind of guy that's going to rise a little bit. A lot of people thought he was a third, fourth, fifth-rounder heading into the season. Now, he's probably a second round type of guy."

Drawing comparisons to Texas Christian quarterback Andy Dalton, Florida State quarterback Christian Ponder and Iowa quarterback Ricky Stanzi, Mayock said Kaepernick has "probably got the most upside of any of them."

As a senior last season, Kaepernick passed for 3,022 yards and 21 touchdowns and rushed for 1,206 yards and 20 touchdowns.

As a junior, the 6-foot-4, 230-pounder passed for 2,052 yards and 20 touchdowns while rushing for 1,183 yards and 16 touchdowns.
Kaepernick ran the 40-yard dash in 4.53 seconds.

He also draws high marks for his character.

We're looking for people that are fundamentally different,” vice president of player personnel Andy Weidl said Saturday night. “The love and passion for football, it's non-negotiable. They're caring, their character, they do the right thing persistently, and they have a relentless playing style that you can see on tape. The motor, it burns hot. You see them finishing plays. They have a team-first mentality. They're selfless individuals.

Source: Eagles work out another top quarterback

The Philadelphia Eagles seemingly don’t have the need to add any more quarterbacks to their roster, but that hasn’t stopped them from working them out in recent weeks.

The team worked out former TCU QB Andy Dalton last week, a source confirmed. The Eagles also recently worked out strong-armed former Nevada QB Colin Kaepernick. Both signal callers are expected to go off the board within the first 40 selections overall.

Dalton, who had a strong NFL Scouting Combine throwing session and also threw quite well during his pro day workout, is expected to work out for or visit with more than 12 teams before the NFL draft begins April 28.

The Eagles have two quarterbacks already under contract for next season (Kevin Kolb and Mike Kafka). And veteran QB Michael Vick, who is scheduled to become a free agent, had the “exclusive” franchise tag placed on him, so he’ll be with the team for at least one more season.

The only plausible explanation for the Eagles looking at quarterbacks is if they trade Kolb, their interest in looking at a developmental quarterback could increase. The Eagles are still very high on Kafka, but whether they think he could develop into a starter remains to be seen.

IF, and that is still a big IF, they get rid of Kolb I can see them getting an extra pick in the 34-40 range and using it on a QB. But only if they see one there that they really like---much in the Kolb style.
Wait until next year is a terrible philosophy
            Hope is not a strategy

It seems doubtful that's the order that it would happen. There is almost no chance that there's trading before the draft, so more likely they would take a QB and then trade Kolb sometime between the draft and the season. I don't think it would hurt their leverage, really.

The point in my post is that I can't see them using their first round pick and those guys would be gone by their second round pick (54). They have too many needs to move back from the first to the top of the second and then pick a QB as their first pick (ala Kolb). So IMM the only way they go after one of those guys is to trade Kolb, get a high second and other stuff, and use that high second for a QB. I agree that isn't likely that is why I said it is a big if. So, my guess is they draft a QB late, pit him, Kafka, and some vet they pick up later in camp and see hwo wins.

Greg McElroy to work out for Giants, Cowboys, Eagles

                    http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/...ys-Eagles.html

Alabama quarterback Greg McElroy is scheduled for private workouts with the New York Giants, Philadelphia Eagles and the Dallas Cowboys within the next week, according to a league source with knowledge of the situation.

Per the source, McElroy will have other workouts over the next few weeks.

McElroy began throwing again two weeks ago after recovering from a broken throwing hand suffered during the Senior Bowl.

By all accounts, his Pro Day session on the Alabama campus went well.
"He's pretty healthy now," the source said. "He's been trying to get his arm back in shape."

McElroy scored a 43 on the Wonderlic exam.

McElroy is known for his accuracy, touch, reads and intangibles, but doesn't have the strongest arm.

He has been working to refine his throwing motion.

For his career, the Academic All-American completed 66.3 percent of his throws for 5,691 yards and 39 touchdowns.

He went 24-3 as a starter, an .889 winning percent with just 10 interceptions in 658 throws. That's one interception out of every 65.8 attempts, the top mark in Alabama and SEC history.

He finished sixth in career attempts, third in completions, first in completion percentage, fourth in yards and third in touchdowns.

McElroy won one national championship for the Crimson Tide.

As a senior, he passed for 2,987 yards and a school-record 20 touchdowns with only five interceptions. He completed 70.9 percent of his throws and was a finalist for the Unitas Golden Arm Award.
