No. Until he actually misses a mandatory camp, it's business as usual. Sal Pal was on DNL and said the same today.

Ummmm no, not in civil terms. Which to me means that he's looking to get nasty with this now. As has been stated, he has little to no actual leverage, so I've gotta believe that Drew has SOMETHING up his sleeve. And it will be something nasty. Expect that Lito is being coached up on how to be a disgruntled player right now.

Not peculiar. He wants to hire the guy who's got a track record for getting under the Eagles' skin in order to better his chances at forcing a trade.

You may be right in that. I don't think they are more likely to negotiate with Drew, but they might be more likley to want to get rid of the headache.

I still believe Lito will be at TC and there is no plausible reason he would not be. A trade now is idiotic; the Eagles will not do it because the value for Lito only goes up ONCE he plays and proves he can stay healthy. Lito should know that; his options will be much better next off-season.

Word is Howie is a cooler head in negotiations and was one reason he got promoted. Sal Pal said similar on DNL tonight. I think the Eagles will try hard to make this year work and then see what happens after it ends. They will probably trade Lito during next off-season hopefully coming off a stellar season.

Do you really think Connor slipped that far purely because of Rosenhaus? Was he the only Rosenhaus client in the draft? I have a hard time believe teams would pass on him in the second and early third (I believe he was drafted in the third round) just because of his agent. It's not like it's hard to negotiate a third-round contract.

i think in Lito's mind, he has a better chance at forcing SOMETHING with Rosenhaus at the helm. right now, all he's getting is status quo, and that's not sitting well.

he probably sees it as a situation where he needs to force the issue and try to make the Eagles decide that they are either going to pay him or trade him.

You may think a trade is "idiotic", VFK, but I have a hard time believing that Lito's rationale for signing with Drew has anything to do with extending his stay in Philly, or negotiating any new contracts in Philly. It's to bring about a trade, and work a new contract with a new team. Lito is trying to get out of town, although the Eagles still might not let him. But I think the liklihood of a trade just increased with Drew in the picture.

I have a borderline "bipolar" analysis:

PFT mentioned that Rosenhaus told the Eagles that with Lito, he has no desire for the negotiations to turn as sour as they had with Asshat. This tactic tells me that Rosenhaus realizes that it is not in his best interests to have even ONE NFL franchise completely resolved in not working with him and may even bend a lot to get this deal done amicably.

                  conjecture only.

Whatever gets you through the night. Here's what Drew told Brookover. Note that it's a pleasant enough quote in which he says he expects "things to move in a positive direction."

Movement is the key word here. He has to shake things up in order to get things moving.

                    Lito Sheppard hires Drew Rosenhaus

By Bob Brookover and Ashley Fox

                    INQUIRER STAFF WRITERS

History repeated itself yet again today when an Eagles player unhappy with his contract fired his former agent and replaced him with Drew Rosenhaus.
The player this time is cornerback Lito Sheppard, who missed the Eagles' two-week voluntary camp last month and has made it known that he's unhappy with his contract, which has four years remaining and will pay him a base salary of $2 million this season.

Exactly what this means for Sheppard's immediate future isn't clear. Sheppard and most of the other Eagles veterans are scheduled to report to training camp a week from today at Lehigh University.

The Eagles confirmed that they are aware of Sheppard's decision to dump former agent Lamont Smith in favor of Rosenhaus. A league source said the team and the high-profile agent are determined not to have a repeat of the circus that engulfed the franchise in 2005 when former Eagle Terrell Owens got into an incendiary contract dispute that included heated arguments with his teammates and coaches, well-documented sit-ups by the star receiver on his Moorestown driveway and the eventual dismissal of T.O. from the team.

"We have signed Lito as a new client," Rosenhaus said after a meeting with the Eagles at the NovaCare Complex. "I'm trying to keep somewhat of a low profile. We're going to keep everything real positive. I've had a lot of positive dealings with the team recently. I'm confident that we're going to find a mutually beneficial solution to this situation and we expect things to move in a positive direction."

Sheppard did not return a phone call.

Multiple sources confirmed that Rosenhaus was in Philadelphia today and he met with vice president of player personnel Howie Roseman. Team president Joe Banner, who is on vacation, took part in the meeting via conference call.

"It was a relatively positive conversation and the Eagles expect him to be at camp when the vets report next Thursday," a team source said.

A source close to Sheppard also said the cornerback would report to training camp.

While it's certainly a good sign that Sheppard plans to be in training camp and that the situation is not nearly as volatile as the T.O. saga, it remains to be seen how a lot of things are resolved.

It's still entirely possible that the Eagles could deal Sheppard to another team, something they tried to do before the draft in April.

If Sheppard isn't traded, however, it will be interesting to see who gets the majority of playing time at right cornerback. Reid is already on the record as saying that Asante Samuel is the starting left cornerback, leaving close friends Sheppard and Sheldon Brown competing for playing time at right cornerback.

Defensive coordinator Jim Johnson said last month that Brown would defend the slot receiver when the Eagles have three cornerbacks on the field in their nickel formation. Johnson estimated that the Eagles use three cornerbacks about 65 percent of the time.

Can the three-headed cornerback situation work?

Can the Eagles have a happily-ever-after ending with Rosenhaus as one of the main characters in the story?

                    Will Sheppard end up elsewhere?

These and plenty of other questions will begin to be answered in the near future

I still say crap. There is still every possibility things will not change one bit from where they were last week as far as what happens. They may trade him, they may keep him this year and assure him they will work out a trade next year, they may assure him they will work on a new deal during the year, etc.
But hiring scumsucker for an agent indicates Lito is not happy with the way things are progressing and is not a positive for the birds. No one knows what they have told Lito up to now but whatever it was it doesn't appear to me that Lito believes it or accepts it.
Wait until next year is a terrible philosophy
                      Hope is not a strategy

Re: Lito - Uh-Oh - can you say "Next Question"?

This is a "shot across the bow" from Sheppard. I think the threat of Roach-In-House(tm) antics is intended to put a little more pressure on the Eagles to give him a new deal and honestly I don't see how this move doesn't help Lito. If the roach's reputation doesn't help him get a new deal from the birds, it certainly will help him get traded where the new team would presumably meet his request since they're trading for him.

Maybe I'm crazy but if the Eagles do give him a new deal and JJ expects to use 3 corners 65% of the time then why exactly are we expecting them to trade Sheppard next season? With a new deal in place there's absolutely no reason to trade him since playing time won't really be an issue. Besides he'd have more trade value with a low contract since the team trading for him will most likely want to negotiate any new deal themselves rather than inherit one done by the Eagles. Besides I want three excellent cover guys back there and this trio certainly ranks among the tops in the league. Let's see what happens this year but if we give him a new deal I fully expect the Eagles to stick with him for the duration.

and ...A guy that is being drafted is different than an established pro-bowl caliber player who in lito's situation. Lito is probably planning on holding out and he needed an agent who would be his cheerleader and coach during that time, who better than the master of hold-up artists. Rosenhaus is viewed as kind of a specialist for this (by me at least).

I know I previosly was in the camp that said , no way Lito holds out and I hope that is still true but I see no other clear explanantion of the switch to Rosenhaus. The only other thing that makes sense would be if Rosenhaus convinced Lito that he could qucikly engineer a trade between the bengals and eagles. Perhaps having Lito and Chad Johnson with the same agent could make trade between us and cinncianati a more likley scenario but I doubt that is the reason or that it would really make it any easier.

I doubt any team out there would give Lito the money he is hoping for until he improves his durability reputation. I think the best case scenario for Lito is if:

                            1. Some good team with little CB depth loses a starting CB a few weeks into the season.
                            2. Lito is still healthy and playing well at that time.
                            3. The team has the cap room to give Lito a new contract.
                            4. The team thinks getting Lito will save their season and is willing to give us something of value.

All 4 of those events have to come together for Lito to get a new contract this season.

If Lito holds out. he will only hurt himself. He needs to prove he can survive the first game of the season without injury for the 1st time in 4 years.

Or it could be as simple as --- Fletcher Smith was honest with him and advised him of what his real value probably is and RosenSharkWhur(tm) probably whispered into his ear a totally different song.

Seems to me, just my memory, but isn't Smith a fairly big agent himself, Donovans agent?

Also just a question --- doesn't a player have to notify the team and the league of a change of agent and then he can't sign with another agent for like 5 days--- if so, and again maybe my premise is wrong, but where was the great media 5 days ago with all their league and club sources? Just askin!
